Premiering on Thursday, October 22 is the fantasy adventure comedy The Witches directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci, Kristin Chenoweth, Chris Rock and Jahzir Kadeen Bruno. The film’s original music is composed by Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump. Marvel’s The Avengers, Cast Away, Who Framed Roger Rabbit). A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score will be announced this coming week. Check out our previous article to learn more about the Warner Bros. Pictures production, which was originally set to open in theaters (and is still being released theatrically in several foreign markets next week) and will debut in the U.S. exclusively on HBO Max.

Premiering on Friday, October 23 (following a very limited theatrical release on October 9 we missed in our film music roundup that week) is the Netflix animated film Over the Moon directed by Glen Keane and starring Cathy Ang, Phillipa Soo, Ken Jeong, John Cho,  Margaret Cho, Kimiko Glenn, Robert G. Chiu, Ruthie Ann Miles, Artt Butler and Sandra Oh. Steven Price (GravityOur PlanetSuicide Squad) has composed the film’s original score and Christopher CurtisMarjorie Duffield & Helen Park have written the original songs. Also premiering on Friday is the Netflix limited series The Queen’s Gambit co-written and directed by Scott Frank and starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Moses Ingram, Rebecca Root, Bill Camp, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Marielle Heller, Harry Melling, Christiane Seidel, Isla Johnston, Chloe Pirrie and Jacob Fortune-Lloyd. The show’s original music is composed by Carlos Rafael Rivera (Godless, A Walk Among Tombstones). Also premiering on Friday is the German Netflix original series Barbarians (Barbaren) created by Arne Nolting, Jan Martin Scharf & Andreas Heckmann and starring Laurence Rupp, Jeanne Goursaud, David Schütter, Ronald Zehrfeld, Nicki von Tempelhoff, Bernhard Schütz, Eva Verena Müller, Sophie Rois, Gaetano Aronica, Nikolai Kinski and Jeremy Miliker. Maurus Ronner (Cutoff) & Ali N. Askin (Tehran Taboo, Leroy) have composed the show’s original music. The historical drama, which revolves around a Roman officer torn between the mighty empire that raised him and his own tribal people conflicted whose allegiances lead to an epic historical clash, will be available to stream on Netflix.

Also premiering on Friday is the animated short Once Upon a Snowman directed by Trent Correy & Dan Abraham and starring Josh Gad. The film’s original music is composed by Christophe Beck (Frozen, Ant-ManEdge of Tomorrow, The Muppets, The Hangover, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) & Jeff Morrow (Science FairIbizaTrolls Holiday) who have previously co-scored Olaf’s Frozen Adventure). Missing from last week’s TV music roundup was the new Hulu original series Helstrom created by Paul Zbyszewski based on the Marvel Comics property and starring Tom Austen, Sydney Lemmon, Elizabeth Marvel, Robert Wisdom Ariana Guerra,and June Carryl. Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans (OzarkBoy ErasedThe Gift, The Outsider, Enemy, Fear the Walking Dead) are composing the show’s original music.
