Composer Carlos Rafael Rivera is reuniting with writer/director Scott Frank on the upcoming Netflix limited series The Queen’s Gambit. The show is co-written and directed by Frank (Logan, The Lookout) and stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Moses Ingram, Rebecca Root, Bill Camp, Marielle Heller, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Harry Melling, Isla Johnston, Christiane Seidel, Chloe Pirrie and Jacob Fortune-Lloyd. The drama based on Walter Tevis’s novel of the same title is set during the Cold War era and tells the story of an orphan chess prodigy from the age of eight to twenty-two, as she struggles with addiction in a quest to become the greatest chess player in the world. Frank is also executive producing the project with co-writer Allan Frank (The Preacher’s Wife, The Witches) and William Horberg (The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Kite Runner). Rivera has previously scored Frank’s Netflix series Godless, for which he received his first Emmy Award, and also composed the music for the Frank-directed feature A Walk Among Tombstones. The Queen’s Gambit will premiere on October 23, 2020 exclusively on Netflix.
