World Premiere Recording of Bernard Herrmann’s ‘Endless Night’ Score Announced

Quartet Records has announced the world premiere recording of the previously unreleased score for the 1972 horror mystery drama Endless Night directed by Sidney Gilliat, based on Agatha Christie’s novel of the same title and starring Hayley Mills, Britt Ekland, Hywel Bennett, Per Oscarsson and George Sanders. Reconstructed from the original manuscript by the film’s composer Bernard Herrmann (Psycho, Vertigo, Taxi Driver, Cape Fear, North by Northwest), the music is performed by the Basque National Orchestra and conducted by Fernando Velázquez (The Impossible, Mama, A Monster Calls), with original Moog synthesizer sessions played by Toni Saigi. Quartet Records has announced a number of new soundtracks, including a new album for the 1969 drama Midnight Cowboy directed by John Schlesinger and starring Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman. John Barry (Goldfinger, Dances with Wolves, Out of Africa) who is credited as the film’s music supervisor composed a series of original cues and supervised the entire musical concept of the project. Everybody’s Talkin’ written by Fred Neil was selected as a main theme for the movie and was newly recorded with arrangements by George Tipton and performed by Harry Nilsson. The 2-CD set features a remastered version of the original soundtrack album, as well as alternate song versions on the first disc and the complete music (both songs and score) as it appears in the film on the second disc. The movie is directed by Simon Stone (The Daughter) and stars Carey Mulligan, Ralph Fiennes, Lily James, Johnny Flynn, Ben Chaplin and Ken Stott. The drama is set in 1938 as World War II looms and follows a wealthy widow who hires an amateur archaeologist to excavate the burial mounds on her estate.
