Opening in theaters nationwide today is the Chinese action adventure Vanguard co-written and directed by Stanley Tong and starring Jackie Chan, Yang Yang, Miya Muqi, Lun Ai, Ruohan Xu and Zhengting Zhu. The film’s original music is composed by Nathan Wang (She’s All That, The Game Plan, Playing with Fire, You Again, Chinese Zodiac). No word on a soundtrack release. The movie, which centers on a covert security company that is the last hope of survival for an accountant after he is targeted by the world’s deadliest mercenary organization, opened in Chinese theaters earlier this year and is being distributed in the U.S. by Gravitas Ventures.
Also opening in theaters nationwide is the drama The Last Vermeer directed by Dan Friedkin and starring Guy Pearce, Claes Bang, Vicky Krieps, August Diehl, Roland Møller, Olivia Grant, Adrian Scarborough and Andrew Havill. Johan Söderqvist (Let the Right One In, Kon-Tiki, The Bridge, Things We Lost in the Fire, After the Wedding) has composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today.
