Last night, the 6th Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMAA) were handed out at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, CA. Dan Romer was awarded for his score for Cary Fukunaga’s critically acclaimed Netflix original movie Beasts of No Nation in the Best Original Score – Feature Film category. Tom Holkenborg was honored for his music for George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road in the Original Score – Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film and thanked fellow nominees Christophe Beck and Harry Gregson-Williams for giving him his first jobs in the industry during his acceptance speech. Christophe Beck received his second HMMA for his work for The Peanuts Movie in the Best Score – Animated Film category. In addition, Miriam Cutler won the prize for her music for The Hunting Ground in the Original Score – Documentary category.

Tom Holkenborg (Junkie XL) to score ‘Deadpool’
Tom Holkenborg (Junkie XL) announced on Twitter that he is set to compose the music for the upcoming comic book adaptation Deadpool. The film is directed by Tim Miller and stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano, Ed Skrein and Brianna Hildebrand. The movie is based on the Marvel Comics character from the X-Men universe and centers on Wade Wilson, a talkative assassin who winds up with superpowers while seeking a cure for his cancer. Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick (Zombieland, G.I. Joe: Retaliation) have written the screenplay.

Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the sci-fi action adventure The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials directed by Wes Ball and starring Dylan O’Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Ki Hong Lee, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Patricia Clarkson, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Rosa Salazar, Aidan Gillen, Jacob Lofland, Barry Pepper and Lili Taylor. The film’s original music is composed by John Paesano (Daredevil, When the Game Stands Tall) who previously scored the first part in the series. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. Creating the Musical Themes for ‘Black Mass’
WaterTower Music has published a video featurette about the music for Scott Cooper’s thriller Black Mass. The video features composer Tom Holkenborg aka Junkie XL (Mad Max: Fury Road, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Divergent) discussing the character themes he composed for the movie starring Johnny Depp, Joel Edgerton, Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Bacon, Dakota Johnson, Jesse Plemons, Corey Stoll, Rory Cochrane, Sienna Miller and Adam Scott. ‘Black Mass’ Soundtrack Details
WaterTower Music will release a soundtrack album for the crime drama Black Mass. The album features the film’s original music composed by Tom Holkenborg aka Junkie XL (Mad Max: Fury Road, Divergent, 300: Rise of an Empire, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice). The soundtrack will be released on September 11, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Black Mass is directed by Scott Cooper (Ouf of the Furnace, Crazy Heart) and stars Johnny Depp, Joel Edgerton, Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Bacon, Dakota Johnson, Jesse Plemons, Corey Stoll, Rory Cochrane, Sienna Miller and Adam Scott. The movie tells the true story of Whitey Bulger, the most infamous violent criminal in the history of South Boston, who became an FBI informant to take down a Mafia family invading his turf.
YouTube Series ‘Studio Time with Junkie XL’ Announced
Tom Holkenborg aka Junkie XL is launching a new YouTube tutorial series, Studio Time with Junkie XL. The series will give aspiring composers, producers, and musicians a rare glimpse into the inner workings of a Hollywood composer. The tutorial topics will range from technical advice, such as string and drum arrangements, to programming tips and advice on how to channel your musical influences. The project is an extension of Holkenborg’s previous teaching experience as an associate professor at ARTEZ, the Dutch music conservatorium where he developed and taught a four year music program based on all of the elements of his career.

Tom Holkenborg (Junkie XL) Scoring ‘Kill Your Friends’
Tom Holkenborg aka Junkie XL has composed the original score for the upcoming British indie thriller Kill Your Friends. The film is directed by Owen Harris and stars Nicholas Hoult, James Corden, Craig Roberts, Rosanna Arquette, Tom Riley and Ed Skrein. The movie follows a 27-year-old A&R man who is slashing and burning his way through London’s music industry and goes to extremes in search of the next megahit. John Niven (Cat Run) wrote the screenplay based on his 2008 novel of the same title. Gregor Cameron, Will Clarke and Len Blavatnik are producing the project.

The soundtrack will be released on May 12, 2015 by WaterTower Music and is now available for pre-order on Amazon and iTunes, where you can also listen to audio clips.
