Premiering tonight is the HBO original mini-series Olive Kitteridge directed by Lisa Cholodenko based on Elizabeth Strout’s Pulitzer Price-winning novel of the same title and starring Frances McDormand, Richard Jenkins, Zoe Kazan, Bill Murray, John Gallagher Jr., Jesse Plemons and Brady Corbet. Carter Burwell (Fargo, Twilight, True Grit, Mildred Pierce) who previously scored Cholodenko’s 2010 feature The Kids Are All Right has composed the series’ original music. No word yet on a soundtrack release. Max Richter to Perform ‘The Leftovers’ Score Live in Concert
Max Richter will be performing selections from his music for the HBO hit show The Leftovers live in concert. The event will take place on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at The Bowery Ballroom in New York. ‘Boardwalk Empire’ Volume 3 Soundtrack Announced
(UPDATED on October 22, 2014 with complete track list:) ABKCO Records will release a new soundtrack album for the HBO original series Boardwalk Empire. The Volume 3 album features new versions of 1920’s and 1930’s songs performed by such artists as Elvis Costello, Regina Spektor, David Johansen, Loudon Wainwright III, cast members Margot Bingham (Daughter Maitland) and Stephen DeRosa (Eddie Cantor) and Boardwalk Empire house band Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks. The soundtrack will be released on October 27, 2014. A CD version is set to be released on January 13, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The label has previously released the Volume 2 soundtrack, while Elektra/Asylum Records released the first soundtrack album. Boardwalk Empire executive produced by Terence Winter and Martin Scorsese stars Steve Buscemi as Enoch “Nucky” Thompson, Atlantic City’s undisputed czar at a time when Prohibition proved to be a major catalyst.
Jeff Beal Takes Over Scoring Duties on HBO’s ‘The Newsroom’
Jeff Beal is composing the music for the third and final season of HBO’s The Newsroom. The show is created by Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing, The Social Network) and stars Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, Sam Waterston, John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Dev Patel and Olivia Munn. The series follows the members of a cable news team on their quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of a fickle audience, corporate mandates and tangled personal relationships. Alex Wurman has previously scored the show’s first season, while Johnny Klimek composed the music for the second season. Thomas Newman provided the series’ main titles theme.
Michael Andrews to Score HBO’s ‘Togetherness’
Michael Andrews is composing the music for the upcoming HBO original series Togetherness. The show is created and executive produced by Mark & Jay Duplass and stars Amanda Peet, Melanie Lynskey, Mark Duplass and Steve Zissis. The comedy follows two couples living under the same Los Angeles roof and who are struggling in their relationships while dealing with their individual problems. Stephanie Langhoff is co-executive producing the project. Andrews has previously collaborated with the Duplass brothers on the features Cyrus and Jeff Who Lives at Home.

Nathan Barr Working on ‘True Blood’ Musical
Nathan Barr revealed at last night’s Season 7 premiere of True Blood in Hollywood that he is working on a musical adaptatation of the HBO drama. The composer who has been scoring the show since the pilot episode in 2008 pitched the project to creator and executive producer Alan Ball. The musical will revolve around the series’s lead character of Sookie Stackhouse, portrayed in the show by Anna Paquin. Stephen Moyer who plays Bill Compton already helped Barr to put together some samples to present to HBO and Ball. The composer who is also scoring FX’s The Americans and Netflix’s Hemlock Grove hopes to present a workshop version of the musical in 2015.
‘Game of Thrones’ Season 4 Soundtrack Details
The details of the fourth soundtrack album for HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones have been revealed. The soundtrack features selections from the original score of the show’s fourth season composed by Ramin Djawadi (Iron Man, Pacific Rim, Clash of the Titans). Also included is the cover version of the song The Rains of Castamere by the Icelandic band Sigur Rós, which was previously released as a single.
