WaterTower Music to Release Sigur Rós’ ‘The Rains of Castamere’ from ‘Game of Thrones’
WaterTower Music will release a new version of the song The Rains of Castamere from the HBO original series Game of Thrones. The show’s fourth season will feature a version of the song by the Icelandic band Sigur Rós. The track is written by the composer of the series, Ramin Djawadi and features lyrics by George R.R. Martin. The song will be released digitally on April 13, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out an audio clips from the track after the jump. The Rains of Castamere has previously appeared numerous times during the first three seasons of the show, including in a version performed by The Nationals, which was featured on the Season 2 soundtrack album. Game of Thrones will return for its fourth season this Sunday, April 6 on HBO.
Cliff Martinez to Score HBO’s ‘The Normal Heart’
Cliff Martinez has been hired to score the upcoming HBO original movie The Normal Heart. The film is directed by Ryan Murphy (Glee, Nip/Tuck, Eat Pray Love) and stars Mark Ruffalo, Taylor Kitsch, Matt Bomer, Julia Roberts, Jim Parsons, Jonathan Groff, Alfred Molina, Joe Mantello, Denis O’Hare, Stephen Spinella and Corey Stoll. The movie is based on the Tony-winning play by Larry Kramer (Women in Love) and tells the story of the onset of the HIV-AIDS crisis in New York City in the early 1980s. Kramer has also written the screenplay and Murphy is executive producing the project with Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, Insidious), Dede Gardner (12 Years a Slave, World War Z) and Dante Di Loreto (American Horror Story, Glee).
Jeff Cardoni to Score HBO’s ‘Silicon Valley’
Jeff Cardoni has been hired to score the upcoming HBO comedy Silicon Valley. The show is created by Mike Judge (King of the Hill, Office Space), John Altschuler & Dave Krinsky (Blades of Glory) and stars T.J. Miller, Thomas Middleditch, Josh Brener, Lindsey Broad, Christopher Evan Welch, Amanda Crew, Angela Trimbur, Zach Woods and Kumail Nanjiani. The series follows a group of self-proclaimed sexless, classless geeks as they make their way through the quirky and hilarious world of young tech-entrepreneurship. Judge, Altschuler and Krinsky are also executive producing the project with Scott Rudin (The Social Network, No Country for Old Men, Captain Phillips), Michael Rotenberg (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Reign Over Me) and Tom Lassally (Stay, The To Do List).
Max Richter to Score HBO’s ‘The Leftovers’
Max Richter has signed on to score the upcoming HBO original series The Leftovers. The show is created by Damon Lindelof (Lost, Prometheus, Star Trek) and Tom Perrotta (Little Children, Election) and stars Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston, Liv Tyler and Ann Dowd. The series is based on Perotta’s book of the same title and takes place in the wake of a global “Rapture” and centers on the people who didn’t make the cut and are left behind in a suburban community. Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights, Lone Survivor) has directed the pilot episode. Lindelof, Perotta and Berg are also executive producing the Warner Bros. Television production with Sarah Aubrey (Battleship, Lars and the Real Girl), Ron Yerxa & Albert Berger (Little Miss Sunshine, Cold Mountain).
‘Girls’ Vol. 2 Soundtrack Announced
Atlantic Records will release a new soundtrack album for the HBO hit comedy Girls. The album entitled Girls Volume 2: All Adventurous Women Do… features new songs by artists including Beck, Lily Allen, Miguel and Jenny Lewis whose track Completely Not Me was featured in this past Sunday’s season premiere. Also included is a track by the show’s composer Michael Penn. The soundtrack will be released on February 11, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on iTunes. Fueled by Ramen has released the first soundtrack album for the comedy last year. Girls created by and starring Lena Dunham and produced by Judd Apatow follows a close group of twenty-somethings as they chart their lives in New York City. The show’s second season was is now available on Blu-Ray and DVD and the third season of the series currently airs Sunday nights on HBO.

T Bone Burnett is set to score the upcoming HBO original series True Detective. The show stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as two cops whose lives intersect during a 17-year serial killer investigation in Louisiana. Michelle Monaghan, Jay O. Sanders, Lili Simmons, Alexandra Daddario, Michael Potts, Kevin Dunn, Tory Kittles, Elizabeth Reaser and Brad Carter are co-starring. Nic Pizzolatto is writing the scripts for all episodes and Cary Fukunaga (Sin Nombre, Jane Eyre) is directing the entire series. Pizzolatto is also executive producing the project with Steve Golin (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Babel) and Scott Stephens (Elightened, Hung).
Carter Burwell to Score HBO’s ‘Olive Kitteridge’
Carter Burwell has been hired to score the upcoming HBO mini-series Olive Kitteridge. The series directed by Lisa Cholodenko (Laurel Canyon, High Art) is based on the Pulitzer Price-winning novel of the same title by Elizabeth Strout and stars Frances McDormand, Richard Jenkins, Zoe Kazan, John Gallagher Jr., Jesse Plemons and Brady Corbet. The two-parter takes place in a seemingly placid New England town wrought with illicit affairs, crime and tragedy, told through the lens of Olive, whose wicked wit and harsh demeanor mask a warm but troubled heart and a staunch moral center. Jane Alexander (It Could Happen to You, Normal) has adapted the material for television. Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman (The Pacific, John Adams) are executive producing the project with McDormand and Anderson. Burwell has previously collaborated with Cholodenko on the Academy Award-nominated indie dramedy The Kids Are All Right.
