Premiering on Thursday, May 14 is the Fox limited series Wayward Pines executive produced by Chad Hodge & M. Night Shyamalan and starring Matt Dillon, Melissa Leo, Toby Jones, Juliette Lewis, Terrence Howard, Carla Gugino, Reed Diamond and Shannyn Sossamon. The show’s original music is composed by Charlie Clouser (Saw series, Numb3rs, Resident Evil: Extinction). Wayward Pines is set in a small town in the Pacific Northwest and follows a Secret Service agent who begins a missing persons investigation that quickly reveals a more sinister and creepy side of the town. ‘Bessie’ Soundtrack Announced
Legacy Recordings has announced a soundtrack album for the HBO original movie Bessie. The album features the songs from the film, including seven new Queen Latifah performances, a postmodern reworking of Bessie Smith’s original recording featuring newly recorded vocals, as well as modern performances of blues, jazz and swing classics performed by Tamar-Kali, Cécile McLorin Salvant; and two new instrumental arrangements from Vince Giordano & The Nighthawks. Also included are period recordings from Fats Waller & His Rhythm, Louis Armstrong & His Orchestra, Sippie Wallace and Kid Ory’s Creole Orchestra (“Ballin’ The Jack”). David Robbins Scoring HBO’s ‘The Brink’
David Robbins is scoring the upcoming HBO original series The Brink. The show is created by Kim and Roberto Benabib and stars Jack Black, the composer’s brother Tim Robbins, Pablo Schreiber, Aasif Mandvi, Maribeth Monroe, Eric Ladin, Esai Morales and Geoff Pierson. The comedy follows the U.S. Secretary of State, a lowly Foreign Service officer and an ace Navy fighter pilot who must pull through the chaos around them to save the planet from World War III. Jerry Weintraub (Ocean’s Eleven, The Karate Kid, Behind the Candelabra) is producing the project with Roberto Benabib (Weeds) and Jay Roach (Meet the Parents, Austin Powers, Game Change).
Rachel Portman Scoring HBO’s ‘Bessie’
Rachel Portman has been tapped to score the upcoming HBO original movie Bessie. The film is directed by Dee Rees (Pariah) and stars Queen Latifah, Michael Kenneth Williams, Khandi Alexander, Mike Epps, Tika Sumpter, Tory Kittles, Oliver Platt, Bryan Greenberg, Charles S. Dutton and Mo’Nique. The movie tells the story of legendary blues singer Bessie Smith and her transformation from a struggling young singer into “The Empress of the Blues,” one of the most successful recording artists of the 1920s and an enduring icon today. Rees has also written the screenplay with Christopher Cleveland & Bettina Gilois (McFarland, USA, Glory Road) based on a story by herself and Horton Foote (To Kill a Mockingbird, Of Mice and Men).
Rupert Gregson-Williams & Chris Willis to Score HBO’s ‘Virtuoso’
Rupert Gregson-Williams revealed on Twitter that he will be co-scoring the upcoming HBO drama pilot Virtuoso with Chris Willis. The show is created by Alan Ball (Six Feet Under, American Beauty, True Blood) and stars Peter Macdissi, Alex Lawther, Francois Civil, Nico Mirallegro, Lindsay Farris and Iva Babic. The period drama is set in 18th century Vienna and follows a class of musicians from all across Europe at the prestigious Academy of Musical Excellence. Ball is also executive producing the project with singer/songwriter Elton John, David Furnish & Steve Hamilton Shaw (Gnomeo & Juliet, It’s a Boy Girl Thing).

The show’s original music is composed by Michael Andrews (Neighbors, Bridesmaids, Donnie Darko) who previously scored the Duplass Brothers’ features Cyrus and Jeff Who Lives at Home. The series about two couples who are living under the same Los Angeles roof and who are struggling in their relationships while dealing with their individual problems will every Sunday night on HBO. Premiering tomorrow, January 12, is the new MTV original drama Eye Candy based on the book by R.L. Stine, executive produced by Jason Blum and starring Victoria Justice, Casey Deidrick, Harvey Guillen, Kiersey Clemons and John Garet Stoker. Dino Meneghin (Teen Wolf) is composing the show’s original score. Eye Candy follows a tech genius who is persuaded by her roommate to begin online dating and begins to suspect that one of her mysterious suitors might be a deadly cyber stalker. Ramin Djawadi to Score HBO’s ‘Westworld’
Ramin Djawadi has signed on to score the pilot of the upcoming HBO original series Westworld. The show is created by Jonathan Nolan (The Dark Knight, Memento) & Lisa Joy based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 film of the same title and stars Anthony Hopkins, James Marsden, Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, Thandie Newton, Miranda Otto, Rodrigo Santoro, Ed Harris, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Angela Sarafyan and Simon Quarterman. The show is set at an amusement park and is described as a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin. Nolan & Joy are also executive producing the Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Television production with J. J. Abrams & Bryan Burk (Lost, Star Trek) and Jerry Weintraub (Ocean’s Eleven, The Karate Kid).
Soundtrack for HBO’s ‘The Leftovers’ Released
WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album for the HBO original series The Leftovers. The album features selections from the original score of the show’s first season composed by Max Richter (Disconnect, Waltz with Bashir, The Congress). The soundtrack is now available to download on iTunes, where you can also listen to audio clips. The Leftovers is created by Damon Lindelof (Lost) & Tom Perrotta (Little Children, Election) and stars Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston, Liv Tyler and Ann Dowd. The series takes place in the wake of a global “Rapture” and centers on the people who didn’t make the cut and are left behind in a suburban community.

Premiering tonight in the U.S. is the second part of the Worricker trilogy, Turks & Caicos directed by David Hare and starring Bill Nighy as MI5 spy Johnny Worricker, alongside Christopher Walken, Winona Ryder, Helena Bonham Carter and Ralph Fiennes. The film’s original music is composed by Paul Englishby (An Englishby, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day) who previously scored Hare’s Page Eight. The composer also scored the final part in the trilogy, Salting the Battlefield.
