WaterTower Music will release a new soundtrack album for the HBO original series The Leftovers. The album features selections from original music of the show’s second season composed by Max Richter (Waltz with Bashir, Disconnect, Testament of Youth, The Congress). The soundtrack will be released digitally on February 19, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The label has previously released a soundtrack featuring the composer’s music from the first season. The Leftovers created by Damon Lindelof & Tom Perrotta takes place in the wake of a global “Rapture” and centers on the people who didn’t make the cut and are left behind in a suburban community.

HBO’s ‘Vice Principals’ to Feature Music by Joey Stephens
Joey Stephens is reuniting with Jody Hill & Danny McBride and will compose the music for the upcoming HBO original series Vice Principals. The show is created by Hill and McBride who also stars in the comedy alongside Walter Goggins, Kimberly Hébert Gregory, Georgia King, Busy Philipps, Shea Whigham and Sheaun McKinney. The series, which has been ordered for two seasons with 18 episodes, tells the story of a high school and the people who almost run it, the vice principals. McBride and Hill are also executive producing the project with Stephanie Laing and David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express, All the Real Girls, George Washington) who also directed the pilot episode.

Premiering tomorrow, February 8, is the HBO documentary Homegrown: The Counter-Terror Dilemma directed by Greg Barker based on the book United States of Jihad: Investigating America’s Homegrown Terrorists. The film’s original score is composed by electronic musician and percussionist Ricardo Donoso. Homegrown is produced by Barker, John Battsek & Julie Goldman and offers an insider’s account from the perspectives of those who helped construct America’s counter-terrorism machine, as well as those who are its targets. Airing tonight is the Fox television event Grease: LIVE! starring Julianne Hough, Aaron Tveit, Vanessa Hudgens, Carlos PenaVega, Keke Palmer, Andrew Call, David Del Rio, Kether Donohue, Jordan Fisher and Boyz II Men. Republic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the special by Jim Jacobs & Warren Casey, as well as two original tracks written by Tom Kitt & Brian Yorkey and performed by Carly Rae Jepsen and DNCE and an original track written and performed by DNCE. Premiering on Tuesday, February 2, is the FX original series American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson written by Scott Alexander & Larry Karaszewski, executive produced by Ryan Murphy and starring Cuba Gooding Jr., John Travolta, David Schwimmer, Courtney B. Vance, Robert Kardashian, Sarah Paulson and Bruce Greenwood. The show’s original music is composed by Mac Quayle (Mr. Robot, American Horror Story, Scream Queens). Soundtrack for HBO’s ‘Vinyl’ Announced
Atlantic Records will release a soundtrack album for the HBO original series Vinyl. The album features selections of the songs from the first season of the show by artists including Ty Taylor, David Johansen, Kaleo, Otis Reeding, Ruth Brown, Foghat, Soda Machine, Dee Dee Warwick & more. Also included is the series’ title song Sugar Daddy by Sturgill Simpson. The soundtrack will be released on February 12, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Vinyl is created by Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire), executive produced by Martin Scorsese and stars Bobby Cannavale, Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano, Juno Temple, Ato Essandoh, P. J. Byrne, J. C. MacKenzie, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen and Paul Ben-Victor. The drama is set in 1970s New York and tells the story of a record executive trying to resurrect his label and find the next new sound.
Harry Gregson-Williams Scoring HBO’s ‘Confirmation’
Harry Gregson-Williams is composing the music for the upcoming HBO original movie Confirmation. The film is directed by Rick Famuyiwa (Dope, The Wood) and stars Kerry Washington, Wendell Pierce, Greg Kinnear, Jeffrey Wright, Eric Stonestreet, Jennifer Hudson, Dylan Baker, Erika Christensen, Kimberly Elise, Malcolm Gets, Grace Gummer, Bill Irwin, Zoe Lister-Jones, Peter McRobbie, Treat Williams and Alison Wright. The drama details the 1991 Clarence Thomas Supreme Court nomination hearings and revisits the national debate over race relations and sexual harassment sparked during the hearings when law professor Anita Hill testified about her experiences with Thomas.
Jeff Russo to Score HBO’s ‘Crime’ and ‘Behold My Heart’
Jeff Russo is set to score the upcoming HBO original miniseries Crime. The show is written by Richard Price (Ransom, Shaft, Sea of Love) based on the British TV series Criminal Justice and stars John Turturro, Riz Ahmed, Michael Kenneth Williams, Amara Karan, Jeannie Berlin, Glenne Headly, Bill Camp, Payman Moaadi and Poorna Jagannathan. The show follows an ambulance-chasing New York City attorney who gets in over his head when he takes on the case of a Pakistani man accused of murdering a girl on the Upper West Side. Steve Zaillian (Schindler’s List, Moneyball, Searching for Bobby Fischer) is executive producing the project with Price, Criminal Justice creator Peter Moffat and Jane Tranter (Rome, DaVinci’s Demons).
David Lawrence to Score Douglas McGrath’s HBO Documentary ‘Becoming Mike Nichols’
David Lawrence has signed on to score the upcoming documentary Becoming Mike Nichols. The film is directed by Douglas McGrath (Emma, Nicholas Nickleby, I Don’t Know How She Does It, Infamous) and shows director, producer and improvisational comedy Mike Nichols’ final and historic interviews filmed just months before his death. The movie documents the early life of Nichols (The Graduate, Closer, The Birdcage, Charlie Wilson’s War), as he opens up to his friend and director Jack O’Brien about the storied beginnings of his career. McGrath is also producing the project with Frank Rich and Jack O’Brien. Lawrence has previously collaborated with the director on the 2000 comedy Company Men.
Julian Wass to Score HBO’s ‘Animals’
Julian Wass has signed on to score the upcoming HBO original series Animals. The show is created by Phil Matarese and Mike Luciano and revolves around a group of downtrodden creatures – pigeons, rats, bedbugs, etc. – living in New York City. The animated comedy features the voices of Matarese and Luciano, as well as actors including Katie Aselton, Nick Kroll and Rob Corddry. The creators are also executive producing the project with Jay & Mark Duplass (Cyrus, Jeff, Who Lives at Home, Togetherness). Wass has previously scored the Duplass Brothers-directed feature The Do-Deca-Pentathlon and the comedy The Overnight, which they produced.
