Edward Shearmur has been hired to score the upcoming BBC mini-series The Outcast. The two-parter is directed by Iain Softley and stars George Mackay, Greg Wise, Hattie Morahan and Jessica Brown Findlay. The drama is based on the bestselling novel by Sadie Jones who also scripted the TV adaptation and follows a young boy who struggles to fit into the life of a post-war English village after witnessing the death of his mother. Christine Langan (The Queen) & Beth Pattinson are executive producing the project for BBC, alongside Pete Czernin & Graham Broadbent (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, In Bruges) for Blueprint Pictures.

Edward Shearmur Scoring Iain Softley’s ‘Curve’
Edward Shearmur is reteaming with director Iain Softley on the upcoming Curve. The film stars Julianne Hough & Teddy Sears and follows a young bride-to-be who is trapped in her overturned car off a deserted highway after deliberately crashing it in an attempt to escape a predatory hitchhiker. Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, The Purge, Sinister) is producing the project through his Blumhouse Productions company, alongside Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown, Non-Stop), Julie Yorn (Unstoppable, We Bought a Zoo) and Juan Sola (Anna).

Opening in most theaters this weekend is the thriller Nightcrawler written and directed by Dan Gilroy and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, Bill Paxton and Riz Ahmed. The film’s original music is composed by James Newton Howard (The Hunger Games, Maleficent, The Sixth Sense, King Kong). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this month. Edward Shearmur (Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Reign of Fire, Johnny English, Charlie’s Angels) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. Before I Go to Sleep follows a woman who wakes up every day with no memory as the result of a traumatic accident in her past. The thriller is being released by Clarius Entertainment. Edward Shearmur to Score Peter Bogdanovich’s ‘Squirrels to the Nuts’
Edward Shearmur has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming comedy Squirrels to the Nuts. The film is directed by Peter Bogdanovich (The Last Picture Show, Paper Moon) and stars Jennifer Aniston, Owen Wilson, Kathryn Hahn, Imogen Poots, Will Forte, Rhys Ifans, Lucy Punch, Cybill Shepherd, Ahna O’Reilly and Jake Hoffman. The movie follows a married Broadway director who meets a call girl and tries to convince her to change her life. Bogdanavich has co-written the script with Louise Stratten and Wes Anderson (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Royal Tenenbaums) is producing the project with Noah Baumbach (Greenberg, Frances Ha), Holly Wiersma (Bobby), Logan Levy and music supervisor George Drakoulias.

While no new TV shows are premiering this week, Amazon has made a number of new pilots available this past Thursday. Viewers will get to decide whether they want a full season by voting for the shows on the website.
One of Amazon’s drama pilots is the mystery drama The After created by Chris Carter (The X-Files, Millennium) and starring Sharon Lawrence, Jamie Kennedy, Aldis Hodge, Andrew Howard, Adrian Pasdar, Arielle Kebbel, Jaina Lee Ortiz and Louise Monot. Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the comedy Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa directed by Jeff Tremaine and starring Johnny Knoxville who punks strangers while in character as senior citizen Irving Zisman. The film’s original musis is composed by Sam Spiegel whose music has previously been featured in some of the other Jackass features and Koool G Murder who is the brother of the film’s co-writer and producer Spike Jonze. Also opening wide is the thriller The Counselor directed by Ridley Scott, written by Cormac McCarthy and starring. Michael Fassbender, Penélope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem and Brad Pitt. Daniel Pemberton (The Awakening) has composed the film’s original score. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. Edward Shearmur to Score ‘Before I Go to Sleep’
Edward Shearmur has been hired to score the upcoming mystery thriller Before I Go to Sleep. The film is written and directed by Rowan Joffe (Brighton Rock, screenwriter of The American and 28 Weeks Later) and stars Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth, Mark Strong and Anne-Marie Duff. The movie is based on the best-selling novel by S.J. Watson of the same title and follows a woman with amnesia who wakes every day with no knowledge of who she is as a result a traumatic accident in her past and must reconstruct her memories from a journal she keeps. Ridley Scott & Liza Marshall (Life in a Day) and Mark Gill (Law Abiding Citzen, Olympus Has Fallen) are producing the Scott Free and Millennium Films production. Shearmur has previously scored the thrillers Righteous Kill and 88 Minutes for Millennium.

Premiering tonight is the new Lifetime drama Devious Maids created by Marc Cherry (Desperate Housewives) and starring Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez, Edy Ganem, Judy Reyes, Brett Cullen, Brianna Brown, Drew Van Acker and Susan Lucci. The show’s score is composed by Edward Shearmur (The Count of Monte Cristo, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow). The drama follows five maids with ambition and dreams of their own while working for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills. Devious Maids will air every Sunday night on Lifetime. Opening in most theaters is the sci-fi thriller Total Recall directed by Len Wiseman and starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Bryan Cranston, Jessica Biel, Bill Nighy, John Cho and Ethan Hawke. Harry Gregson-Williams has composed the film’s original score. Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. The film’s score is composed by Edward Shearmur (Charlie’s Angels, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow) who previously scored last year’s second installment in the series. Edward Shearmur Scoring ‘Spinning Plates’
Edward Shearmur has recently recorded his score for the upcoming documentary Spinning Plates. The film is directed by Joseph Levy and centers on three restaurants – including a cutting-edge restaurant named the sixth best in the world, an 150-year-old family restaurant and a fledgling Mexican restaurant – extraordinary for what they are today as well as the challenges they have overcome. Levy is also producing the Ambush Entertainment production with Miranda Bailey (Super, The Oh in Ohio), Matthew Leutwyler (Answers to Nothing) and Jacqueline Lesko. Taz Goldstein, Phil Rosenthal (Everybody Loves Raymond) and Sim Sarna are executive producing the project. No word yet on a release date for the film.
