David Arnold and Michael Price have been hired to score the upcoming British comedy sequel The Inbetweeners 2. The film is written and directed by Iain Morris & Damon Beesley and stars Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison. The movie follows the four friends Jay, Neil, Simon and Will as they visit Australia. Spencer Millman (The Mighty Boosh) is producing the Bwark, Zodiak Media and Film4 production. Arnold and Price have previously provided additional music for the first movie based on the hit TV series of the same title, which was released in 2011 and turned into the highest grossing British comedy of all time at the local box office.

‘Sherlock’ – Season 3 Soundtrack Announced
Silva Screen Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the BBC hit series Sherlock. The album features selections from score of the show’s third season composed by David Arnold (Independence Day, Casino Royale) and Michael Price. The soundtrack will be released in the UK on January 27, 2014 and on March 4 in the US. Visit Amazon to pre-order the CD and check out audio clips after the jump. The label has previously released soundtrack albums for the first two seasons. Sherlockcreated by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss is a contemporary update of the classic detective stories and stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes and Martin Freeman as Doctor John Watson. The third season of the series will premiere in the UK on January 1 on BBC and in the U.S. on January 19, 2014 on PBS.
‘Skyfall’ Recording Sessions
Sony Pictures Belgium has published a short video from the recording sessions of the score for the latest James Bond film Skyfall. The video features footage of the film’s composer Thomas Newman conducting the orchestra at Abbey Road Studios in London, as well as the composer talking about his first score for the Bond series. As previously reported, the soundtrack will released overseas on October 29, 2012 and in the US on November 6 by Sony Classical and is now available for pre-order on Amazon.

Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the thriller The Words written and directed by Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal and stars Bradley Cooper, Olivia Wilde, Zoe Saldana, Jeremy Irons, Dennis Quaid, Ben Barnes, John Hannah, J.K. Simmons and Nora Arnezeder. The film’s music is composed by Marcelo Zarvos (The Good Shepherd, The Door in the Floor). Also opening wide is the action thriller The Cold Light of Day directed by Mabrouk El Mechri and starring Henry Cavill, Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver. Spanish composer Lucas Vidal (The Raven) who has just been nominated in the Discovery of the Year category for the World Soundtrack Awards this week has composed the film’s score. London Olympics Closing Ceremony Soundtrack Features Music by David Arnold
Decca Music has released the soundtrack album A Symphony of British Music -Music from the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The album includes selections from the original music from the ceremony written by film/TV composer David Arnold (Casino Royale, Independence Day, Stargate) who acted as the music director of the event. Among the songs featured on the release are Blur’s Parklike, Russell Brand’s take on I Am The Walrus and Eric Idle’s performance of Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life. Also included are songs by Muse, Elbow, The Who, Spice Girls, Take That, Ed Sheeran, Jessie J and George Michael. The soundtrack is now available to download on iTunes, where you can also listen to audio clips. A physical version is scheduled to be released on August 20, 2012 in the UK.
‘Sherlock’ Soundtrack Details

The album includes the original score from series one of the show, which includes the three ninety minute episodes A Study In Pink, The Blind Banker and The Great Game. The music is written by David Arnold and Michael Price who were nominated for a BAFTA for their work on the series. The soundtrack will be released overseas both digitally and on CD on January 30, 2012. No word yet on a domestic release. Audio clips can be checked out on Amazon.co.uk. The soundtrack release coincides with the UK premiere of the second season with three new ninety minutes films.
David Arnold to Receive Richard Kirk Award at BMI Film & Television Awards
David Arnold is the recipient of the Richard Kirk Award for career achievment at this year’s BMI Film & Television Awards. The Grammy-winning composer (Independence Day) has previously received 10 BMI film music awards. Arnold is best known as the composer of the last five James Bond movies, as well as for his music for Roland Emmerich’s Stargate, Independence Day and Godzilla. The composer has also worked multiple times with directors John Singleton (Shaft, 2 Fast 2 Furious), Michael Apted (Enough, Amazing Grace) and Roger Michell (Changing Lanes) and is coming off of a busy year, in which he scored four feature films (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Morning Glory, Made in Dagenham and Paul).

Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
The sci-fi comedy Paul is directed Greg Mottola and stars Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Sigourney Weaver, Kristen Wiig, Jane Lynch, Jason Bateman, Bill Hader and Seth Rogen as the voice of Paul. The film’s original score is composed by David Arnold. A soundtrack release including Arnold’s score, as well as several songs from the movie has already been released in Europe as reported here. The album is scheduled to come out on April 4, 2011 in the US.
Also opening today is Brad Furman’s legal thriller starring Matthew McConaughey, Marisa Tomei, John Leguizamo, Ryan Phillippe and William H. Macy. Lakeshore Records has released two different soundtracks including Cliff Martinez’ original score, as well as a song album. Visit our previous article for details on both albums. ‘Paul’ Soundtrack album announced
Universal Music has announced a soundtrack release for the upcoming sci-fi comedy Paul directed by Greg Mottola and starring Simon Pegg, Sigourney Weaver, Kristen Wiig, Jane Lynch, Jason Bateman, Bill Hader and Seth Rogen as the voice of Paul. The soundtrack album includes songs featured in the movie from such artists as The Only Ones, Bill Dee Riley, Todd Rundgren, King Harvest, Marvin Gaye, Max Romeo and the B 52’s. The album also includes 12 tracks from composer David Arnold who composed the original score for the movie as reported here. The soundtrack will be released in the UK on February 21 and a domestic release is expected closer to the US release date of the movie on March 18, 2011.
