Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

The sci-fi comedy Paul is directed Greg Mottola and stars Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Sigourney Weaver, Kristen Wiig, Jane Lynch, Jason Bateman, Bill Hader and Seth Rogen as the voice of Paul. The film’s original score is composed by David Arnold. A soundtrack release including Arnold’s score, as well as several songs from the movie has already been released in Europe as reported here. The album is scheduled to come out on April 4, 2011 in the US.

Also opening today is Brad Furman’s legal thriller starring Matthew McConaughey, Marisa Tomei, John Leguizamo, Ryan Phillippe and William H. Macy. Lakeshore Records has released two different soundtracks including Cliff Martinez’ original score, as well as a song album. Visit our previous article for details on both albums. Also opening wide is Neil Burgers’s thriller Limitless starring Bradley Cooper, Abbie Cornish and Robert De Niro. As reported earlier this week, Relativity Media has released a soundtrack album for the movie including Paul Leonard-Morgan’s original score. Three more movies are opening in limited release: The Music Never Stopped starring J.K. Simmons, Lou Taylor Pucci, Julia Ormond, Tammy Blanchard and Mia Maestro is directed by Jim Kohlberg. As announced earlier today, Rhino Media has released a soundtrack album with songs from the movie and one score track by composer Paul Cantelon.

Also opening in limited release is Jordan Scott’s Cracks. The film centers around the lives and relationships among girls at an elite British boarding school and stars Eva Green, Juno Temple and Mario Valverde. A soundtrack album has been released in late 2009 by Varese Sarabande Records when the film was released overseas. It is currently only available in the US as an import (check out Screen Archives for audio clips and to order the CD).

Finally, opening today is Thomas McCarthy’s comedy drama Win Win starring Paul Giamatti, Melanie Wysnkey, Jeffrey Tambor, Amy Ryan and Bobby Carnivale. The film’s music is written by Lyle Workman. We have learned that a soundtrack album with Workman’s original score is in the works and we will be posting an article when an announcement gets made.
