Hildur Guđnadóttir (Joker, Chernobyl, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Tar) is attached to score the upcoming drama Hedda Gabler. The film is written and directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman, The Marvels) and will star Tessa Thompson in the title role. The movie is based on Henrik Ibsen’s famed 1891 stage play and follows the titular character as she navigates a house she does not want, a marriage she feels trapped in and an ex-lover who has reappeared in her life. Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid directed by Rob Marshall and starring Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Melissa McCarthy, Javier Bardem, Jacob Tremblay, Daveed Diggs and Awkwafina. The film’s original score is composed by Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Enchanted) and the movie’s songs are written by Menken, Howard Ashman and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Walt Disney Records has released two soundtrack albums: a regular edition featuring all the songs and five tracks from Menken’s score (click here for the full details) and a deluxe edition featuring the songs and Menken’s full score (click here for more information).
Also opening wide is the action comedy The Machine directed by Peter Atencio and starring Bert Kreischer, Mark Hamill, Stephanie Kurtzuba, Jimmy Tatro, Jess Gabor and Iva Babić. Joseph Trapanese (The Witcher, Oblivion, Shadow and Bone, The Greatest Showman, Straight Outta Compton) has composed the film’s original music. Over the past week, Joby Talbot (Sing, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Closed Circuit, Penelope, Son of Rambow) has been recording his underscore for the upcoming musical fantasy adventure Wonka. The film is directed by Paul King (Paddington) and stars Timothée Chalamet, Rowan Atkinson, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Colman, Sally Hawkins, Jim Carter, Tom Davis, Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby and Natasha Rothwell. As previously reported, Neil Hannon (who previously worked with Talbot who was a member of the singer/songwriter’s band The Divine Comedy in the 1990s and early 2000s) has written the original songs for the movie, which takes place before the events of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and follows the title character on one his earliest adventures. ‘Hannie Caulder’ Soundtrack Album Announced

Quartet Records has announced the world premiere commercial soundtrack album for the 1971 British western Hannie Caulder directed by Burt Kennedy and starring Raquel Welch, Robert Culp, Ernest Borgnine, Jack Elam, Strother Martin, Diana Dors and Christopher Lee. The album features the film’s original score composed and conducted by Academy Award winner Ken Thorne (Superman II & III, The Protector, Inspector Closeau, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, The Ritz). Also included is the theme song Life Never Is Easy performed by Bobby Hanna. The CD, which is limited to 1,000 copies, is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also check out audio samples and find out more about the release. The album features selections of the original score from the show’s second season composed by Ambrose Akinmusire and Michael Yezerski (The Tax Collector, The Vigil, The Devil’s Candy, Feel the Beat), with spoken word elements by cast members Jasmine Cephas-Jones, Benjamin Earl Turner, Helen Hunt and Rafael Casal. The label has previously released a first soundtrack featuring the score from Season 1 back in 2021.
