CAM Sugar will release Morricone Segreto Songbook (1962-1973), a new collection of little-known gems composed by Academy Award winner Ennio Morricone (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, The Mission, The Untouchables, Cinema Paradiso, Once Upon a Time in the West, The Hateful Eight). Among the titles included are tracks from the composer’s scores for 1962’s Crazy Desire, 1963’s Gunfight in the Red Sands, 1966’s The Hawks and the Sparrows & Wake Up and Die, 1967’s Operation Kid Brother, 1968’s Partner & Teorema, 1969’s The Year of the Cannibals & Love Circle and 1973’s Revolver. Premiering on Thursday, October 19, is the animated special Peter and the Wolf directed by Elliot Dear and Stephen McNally. The Blink Industries’ music is arranged by Maurice Seezer & Gavin Friday (based on Sergei Prokofiev’s symphony) and performed by The Friday-Seezer Ensemble. BMG will release a soundtrack album featuring the animated short’s music this coming Friday. Also premiering on Thursday is the Max original animated series Scavengers Reign created by Joseph Bennett & Charles Huettner and starring Wunmi Mosaku, Bob Stephenson, Ted Travelstead, Sunita Mani and Alia Shawkat. Nicolas Snyder has composed the show’s original music. The animated sci-fi adventure, which follows the remaining crew of a damaged interstellar freighter ship who find themselves stranded on an alien planet, will be available to stream on Max. The 8-part crime drama is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Si Spencer and follows four detectives in four different time periods (1890, 1941, 2023 & 2053) who find themselves investigating the same murder in London’s East End’s Longharvest Lane. Makoché Records will release a soundtrack album for Ken Burns’ new documentary The American Buffalo. The album features selections of the music used in the film by artists such as Joseph Fire Crow, Bobby Horton, Lakota Thunder, Keith Bear, Randy Granger, Will Duncan, Skip Gorman and Robbie Robertson. The soundtrack will be released digitally this coming Monday, October 16 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A CD version is available to order on PBS’ webshop. The American Buffalo is executive produced and directed by Burns and and takes viewers on a journey through more than 10,000 years of North American history, tracing the animal’s evolution, significance to the Great Plains, relationship to the Indigenous People of North America and near demise. Opening in select U.S. theaters today is the French drama Anatomy of a Fall (Anatomie d’une chute) co-written and directed by Justine Triet and starring Sandra Hüller, Swann Arlaud and Milo Machado Graner. The film doesn’t feature an original score and no soundtrack release is expected. The movie, which tells the story of an author who trying to prove her innocence in her husband’s death, premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where it received the Palme d’Or, and is being released by Neon.
Opening in New York today before expanding to more markets in the coming weeeks is the sci-fi thriller Divinity written and directed by Eddie Alcazar and stars Stephen Dorff, Moises Arias, Bella Thorne, Jason Genao, Scott Bakula and Karrueche Tran. The film’s original music is composed by DJ Muggs (of Cypress Hill) & Dean Hurley (Looks That Kill). Sacred Bones Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the artists’ score today. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album for the Latin American Max original animated series Frankelda’s Book of Spooks. The album features the original songs and score from the show’s first season composed by Kevin Smithers. The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. Available separately is a Spanish version of the album. Frankelda’s Book of Spooks is written, directed and produced by the Ambriz Brothers (Arturo & Roy Ambriz) and is an English language re-release of their Spanish-language version series (Sustos Ocultos de Frankelda) that made its debut on HBO Max Latam in 2021. Bear McCreary (Godzilla: King of the Monsters, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, The Walking Dead, 10 Cloverfield Lane) has recently been composing music for the upcoming Disney+ original series Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The Emmy Award-winning composer and members of his Sparks & Shadows team have been recording the show’s score in recent months. The fantasy adventure is based on Disney Hyperion’s best-selling book series by Rick Riordan and stars Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri. The series tells the story of the titular 12-year-old modern demigod who’s just coming to terms with his newfound divine powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt.
