Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Duncan Jones’ Source Code starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan and Vera Farmiga features music by Chris Bacon. A soundtrack including Bacon’s original score has been released by Lakeshore Records as reported here. The album is now available to order on Amazon and can be downloaded at Amazon and iTunes. Bacon has been giving a number of interviews about his latest project. Check out Scorenotes, Film Music Media and Filmmuziek.be for audio interviews with the composer.

Also opening wide is Tim Hill’s Hop starring Russell Brand as the voice of the Easter Bunny, as well as James Marsden, Elizabeth Perkins, Kaley Cuoco and Hugh Laurie. The film’s music is by composer Christopher Lennertz. As reported last week, a soundtrack with Lennertz’ score will be released by Varese Sarabande on April 19. Film Music Reporter has learned that Trevor Morris has landed his most prestigious feature scoring assignment to date. He will be scoring the upcoming 3D Greek mythology action adventure film Immortals. The movie is directed by Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall) and stars Henry Cavill, Mickey Rourke, Stephen Dorff, Isabel Lucas, Freida Pinto, Luke Evans, Kellan Lutz and John Hurt. The film’s story follows the ruthless King Hyperion leading his bloodthirsty army on a murderous rampage across Greece to find a weapon that will destroy humanity. Theseus, a mortal chosen by Zeus, must lead the fight against Hyperion with the fate of mankind and the gods at stake. Read the rest of this entry »

Varese Sarabande Records has announced a soundtrack album for the second season of the TV show Fringe. The album includes highlights of Chris Tilton’s score from the show’s 2009/2010 season. The soundtrack also includes Michael Giacchino’s end title theme, as well as J.J. Abrams’ Fringe 85 as a bonus track. The album will be released on April 5, 2011 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon. The third season of Fringe currently airs Friday nights on Fox and the show was just recently renewed for a fourth season. Read the rest of this entry »

J. Peter Robinson is scoring the upcoming thriller The Hungry Rabbit Jumps. The film is directed by Roger Donaldson and stars Nicolas Cage, January Jones, Jennifer Carpenter and Harold Perrineau. The movie centers on a man who becomes entangled with an underground vigilante organization after his wife is the victim of a brutal crime. Donaldson and Robinson previously collaborated on Cocktail, Cadillac Man and most recently on 2005’s The World’s Fastest Indian starring Anthony Hopkins and 2008’s The Bank Job starring Jason Statham. ‘Scream 4’ Score Album Details

Varese Sarabande Records has announced the details for the Scream 4 score album. The soundtrack includes 21 tracks of Marco Beltrami’s original score from the film. The album will be released on April 19 and can be pre-ordered at Amazon. As previously reported, another soundtrack with songs from the movie and 2 tracks from Beltrami’s score will be released on April 12 by Lakeshore Records (audio clips are available below and on Amazon). Scream 4 directed by Wes Craven stars Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette, Hayden Panettiere, Emma Roberts and Rory Culkin and will be released on April 15. Read the rest of this entry »

Film Music Reporter has received official confirmation that Patrick Doyle is attached to score the upcoming Pixar animation movie Brave. Pixar’s first fairy tale and first female-driven feature tells the story of an impulsive princess who aims to shed her royal ties and become the world’s first great female archer. It was recenly announced that Kelly Macdonald will be voicing the main character. The film’s voice cast also includes Emma Thompson, Craig Ferguson and Billy Connolly. Brave is directed by Mark Andrews who worked as story supervisor on The Incredibles and Ratatouille. The project marks Doyle’s first collaboration with Pixar. Doyle follows Randy Newman, Thomas Newman and Michael Giacchino as the fourth composer scoring a feature animation film for the studio. Read the rest of this entry »

‘Win Win’ Soundtrack released

Mom and Pop Records has released a soundtrack album for Thomas McCarthy’s comedy drama Win Win. The album features Lyle Workman’s original score, as well as the original song Think You Can Wait by The National. The soundtrack is currently available exclusively on iTunes, but a CD release is planned for next month. For audio clips from all tracks on the album, click here. Win Win starring Paul Giamatti, Melanie Wysnkey, Jeffrey Tambor, Amy Ryan and Bobby Carnivale is currently playing in limited release and expanding into more theaters in the coming weeks. Clint Mansell Scoring ‘United’

Clint Mansell is currently scoring the upcoming BBC drama United. The film is based on the true story of soccer team Manchester United’s legendary “Busby Babes”, the youngest side ever to win the Football League and the 1958 Munich air crash that claimed eight of the their number. The made-for-television movie is directed by James Strong and stars David Tennant, Sam Claflin, Jack O’Donnell and Dougray Scott. The project marks Mansell’s first scoring assignment for BBC and his first TV movie credit of his career. No release date has been set for the film. Read the rest of this entry »

Jonathan Goldsmith has been hired to score the upcoming comedy drama Take This Waltz. The movie stars Seth Rogen, Michelle Williams, Sarah Silverman and Luke Kirby. The film is written and directed by Sarah Polley who has worked with Goldsmith on her directorial feature debut Away from Her. Take the Waltz centers on a young woman whose struggles with infidelity leads her to the realization that she may be addicted to the honeymoon period of her relationship. Editions Jade has announced a soundtrack album for the upcoming Emilio Estevez-directed drama The Way. The album includes Tyler Bates’ original score, as well as several songs from the movie from such artists as Berroguetto, Alanis Morissette, James Taylor and Nick Drake. The album will be released in the UK on May 2, 2011. A domestic release is expected closer to the film’s domestic release date on September 30. The Way stars Emilio Estevez, Martin Sheen and Deborah Kara Unger and tells the story of an American father who travels to France to recover the body of his estranged son.
