Stephen Schwartz revealed today at the Comic-Con panel CW3PR’s 8th Annual Behind-the-Music: Crime, Death and Resurrection that the upcoming film adaptation of the stage musical Wicked will feature new original songs. Currently, there are plans for four new songs to be in the movie in addition to tunes from the stage version. Stephen Daldry (The Hours, The Reader, Billy Elliott, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close) will direct the film and Winnie Holzman is writing the screenplay. No casting announcements have been made yet. Marc Platt (Into the Woods, Bridge of Spies, Drive, Legally Blonde) is producing the project.

Stephen Daldry’s ‘Trash’ Soundtrack Details
Back Lot Music will release a soundtrack album for Stephen Daldry’s drama Trash. The album features the film’s original music composed by Antonio Pinto (City of God, Lord of War, McFarland, USA, Amy, Senna). The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 13, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips. Trash is directed by Daldry (The Hours, The Reader, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close) and stars Martin Sheen, Rooney Mara, Wagner Moura and Selton Mello. The movie follows three trash-picking boys from Rio’s slums who find a wallet and team up with two American missionaries to uncover political corruption while evading the police.
Antonio Pinto Scoring Stephen Daldry’s ‘Trash’
Antonio Pinto is scoring the upcoming dramatic thriller Trash. The film is directed by Stephen Daldry and stars Rooney Mara, Martin Sheen, Wagner Moura, Selton Mello, Rickson Tevez, Eduardo Luis and Gabriel Weinstein. The movie is set in the Third World and tells the story of three poverty-stricken boys who discover a wallet with a treasure map inside in a city dump. Richard Curtis (Love Actually, Notting Hill) has written the screenplay based on Andy Mulligan’s 2010 novel. Tim Bevan & Eric Fellner (Atonement, Rush, Les Miserables) are producing the project for Working Title, alongside Kris Thykier (Kick-Ass, The Debt) for PeaPie Films.
‘Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close’ Soundtrack Details
The details of the soundtrack album for Stephen Daldry’s Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close have been revealed. The album includes 18 tracks from the film’s original score composed by Alexandre Desplat. As previously announced, the soundtrack is scheduled to be released on CD on January 17, 2012 by WaterTower Music. The album has been released digitally this week and is now available to download on Amazon. Check out audio clips from all tracks on the album after the jump. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close starring Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock, Thomas Horn, John Goodman, Viola Davis, Jeffrey Wright and Max von Sydow will be released in select theaters on December 25 and nationwide on January 20.
Alexandre Desplat to Score ‘Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close’
Alexandre Desplat has been tapped to score the upcoming drama Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. He is taking over scoring duties from composer Nico Muhly who was originally attached to the project with his name even credited on the film’s poster and in the first trailer. The movie is directed by Academy Award nominated director Stephen Daldry (The Hours, The Reader) and stars Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock, newcomer Thomas Horn, John Goodman, Viola Davis, Jeffrey Wright and Max von Sydow. The film is based on the novel by Jonathan Safran Foer is adapted for the screen by Eric Roth (Forrest Gump) and produced by Scott Rudin (The Social Network). The drama tells the story of a nine-year-old boy who searches New York for the lock that matches a mysterious key left by his father when he was killed in the September 11 attacks.

Nico Muhly is currently scoring the upcoming drama Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. The project reunites the composer with director Stephen Daldry, for whom he previously scored the Academy Award-nominated 2008 drama The Reader starring Ralph Fiennes and Kate Winslet. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close stars Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock, John Goodman, Viola Davis, Jeffrey Wright and Max von Sydow. The movie is based on the novel by Jonathan Safran Foer and centers on a 9-year-old boy who finds a key in a vase that belongs to his father – who perished in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks – and searches to find the lock that goes with it.
