David Torn has recently finished writing the music for the upcoming comedy Jesus Henry Christ alongside co-composer Simon Taufique. The movie starring Michael Sheen and Toni Collette follows a genius boy conceived in a Petri dish and raised by a loving, left-wing feminist. His world is turned upside down when he discovers he has a half sister, leading a trail to his biological father. The film is written and directed by Dennis Lee who made his feature directing debut on 2008’s Fireflies in the Garden, which featured a score by Javier Navarrete. Rolfe Kent Scoring ‘Cinema Verite’

Rolfe Kent has recently finished scoring the upcoming HBO drama Cinema Verite. The movie looks at the revolutionary skein about the Santa Barbara-based Loud family, whose son became the first openly gay character on TV on the 1970s PBS series An American Family. The film stars Diane Lane, Tim Robbins, James Gandolfini, Lolita Davidovich and Thomas Dekker. Cinema Verite is written by David Seltzer (The Omen) and directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini (American Splendor, The Nanny Diaries, The Extra Man). Kent is the latest top composer working on an HBO project, following such artists as Carter Burwell (Mildred Pierce), Nathan Barr (True Blood), Ramin Djawadi (Game of Thrones) and Marcelo Zarvos (You Don’t Know Jack, the upcoming Too Big to Fail). Film Score Monthly has announced the premiere soundtrack release of the 1983 drama Testament. The film’s music is written by Academy Award-winning composer James Horner. The soundtrack album is limited to 2000 copies and includes the complete score from the movie. To listen to audio clips from all tracks on the album and to order the album, visit Film Score Monthly. Testament centers on woman who is struggling to take care of her family after a nuclear attack. The film is directed by Lynne Littman and stars Jane Alexander, William Devane, Ross Harris and Lukas Haas. Alexander received an Academy Award nomination for her lead performance in the movie. Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
The comedy Arthur directed by Jason Winer and starring Russell Brand, Helen Mirren, Jennifer Garner and Greta Gerwig features music by Theodore Shapiro. A soundtrack with songs from the movie has been released earlier this week by WaterTower Music. No word on a release of Shapiro’s score. Also coming out this week is the family drama Soul Surfer starring AnnaSophia Robb, Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt. The film’s score is by Marco Beltrami and has been released by Madison Gate Records as reported here. The album can be downloaded on iTunes. ‘Mildred Pierce’ Soundtrack Details

Varese Sarabande Records has announced the details for the soundtrack release of the HBO drama Mildred Pierce. The music for the mini-series is written by Carter Burwell. The album includes Burwell’s original score, as well as number of classical pieces and songs featured in the series. The soundtrack will be released on May 3, 2011. Jim Dooley to Score ‘Poe’

Jim Dooley is writing the music for the TV drama pilot Poe. The show follows Edgar Allan Poe, the world’s very first detective, as he uses unconventional methods to investigate dark mysteries in 1840s Boston. Poe stars Chris Egan in the title role, Natalie Dormer, Kevin McNally and Leslie Odom. The pilot is written by Christopher Hollier (Kyle XY) and directed by Alex Graves (Terra Nova, Fringe). Dan Lin (Sherlock Homes) is producing through his Lin Productions company and Brad Kern (Human Target, Charmed) has been tapped as executive producer and showrunner. Walt Disney Records has revealed the cover art for the upcoming soundtrack for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The film’s music is composed by Hans Zimmer and as previously reported, Rodrigo y Garcia are also featured on the soundtrack. The album will be released on May 17, 2011. Theodore Shapiro in Concert and Talking About ‘Arthur’

Theodore Shapiro is currently in Dallas, Texas for three concert performances of his music with the Dallas Symphonic Orchestra this weekend. The concert will include performances of suites from some of Shapiro’s best known scores (The Devil Wears Prada, Marley & Me, Tropic Thunder), as well as the world premiere of a new original concert piece called In Mitn Drinnen. Aaron Zigman to Score ‘We the Peeples’

Aaron Zigman has signed on to score the upcoming comedy We the Peeples. The movie is written and directed by Tina Gordon Chism who makes her directing debut on the project. She has previously written the screenplays for Drumline and the 2006 crime drama ATL, which featured a score by Zigman. The comedy starring Craig Robinson, Kerry Washington, Tyler James Williams and David Alan Grier centers on a young man enduring the weekend from hell when he surprises his girlfriend by showing up to meet her parents during the family’s annual end of summer celebration.
