Opening in theaters nationwide is Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King directed by Barry Jenkins and starring Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Tiffany Boone, Mads Mikkelsen, Anika Noni Rose,Keith David, Seth Rogen, Thandiwe Newton, Billy Eichner, Donald Glover, Blue Ivy Carter and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter.The film’s original songs are written by and the movie’s original score is composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Encanto, Moana, Hamilton, In the Heights) and Dave Metzger (Wish, Tarzan & Jane, Brother Bear 2). Lebo M has provided additional music and performances and Mark Mancina has produced the songs with Miranda. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs and another album featuring the score, as well as a deluxe edition featuring both score and songs over the last week. Also opening nationwide is the action adventure comedy sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 3 directed by Jeff Fowler and starring Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz James Marsden, Idris Elba, Keanu Reeves, Krysten Ritter, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Lee Majdoub, Adam Pally and Shemar Moore. Tom Holkenborg (Mad Max: Fury Road, Deadpool, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Godzilla vs. Kong, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Alita: Battle Angel) has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today.
