The Academy has notified members of the music branch that the Oscar-shortlisted original song Forbidden Road from the biographical musical drama Better Man has been disqualified. The track co-written (with Freddy Wexler & Sacha Skarbek and produced by Dan Romer & Wexler) and performed by Robbie Williams was found to feature “material from an existing song that was not written for this film.” The existing title has been identified as the Jim Croce song I Got A Name written by Academy governor Charles Fox & Norman Gimbel for the 1973 feature The Last American Hero. ‘Better Man’ Soundtrack Album Details
Columbia Records will release a soundtrack album for the biographical musical drama Better Man. The album features the songs from the film by Robbie Williams, including such hits as Angels, She’s the One & Let Me Entertain You (re-recorded and newly arranged for the movie), his cover of My Way & more. Also included is Williams’ original song Forbidden Road (co-written with Freddy Wexler & Sacha Skarbek and produced by Dan Romer & Wexler), which is already available to stream/download now. ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’ Soundtrack Details
Sony Masterworks will release a soundtrack album for the animated holiday special The Tiger Who Came to Tea. The album features the film’s original music composed by David Arnold (Independence Day, Casino Royale, Tomorrow Never Dies, Stargate, Shaft, Sherlock, Good Omens). Also included is the original song Hey Tiger! written by Arnold & Don Black and performed by Robbie Williams. The soundtrack will be released on December 20 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Tiger Who Came to Tea is directed by Robin Shaw and features the voices of David Oyelowo, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tamsin Greig, David Walliams and Paul Whitehouse. The special tells the story of a mysterious tiger who turns up unannounced at young Sophie’s house and invites himself in for afternoon tea.
David Arnold Scoring Channel 4’s ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’
David Arnold (Independence Day, Casino Royale, Stargate, Sherlock, Tomorrow Never Dies) has announced that he is composing the music for the upcoming Channel 4 animated holiday special The Tiger Who Came to Tea. The composer also co-wrote the original song Hey Tiger! with Don Black that will be performed by Robbie Williams. The animated short is directed by Robin Shaw (We’re Going on a Bear Hunt) and stars Benedict Cumberbatch, David Oyelowo, Clara Ross, Tamsin Grieg, David Walliams and Paul Whitehouse.
‘Cars 2’ Soundtrack Update
A press release from Disney has announced the contents of the upcoming soundtrack release of Pixar’s Cars 2. Apart from 21 tracks of Michael Giacchino‘s original score, the album also includes a song written by the composer and performed by French singer/songwriter Bénabar. The song is called Mon coeur fait vroum (My Heart Goes Vroom) and is providing a musical introduction to Paris in the animation sequel. Also included on the soundtrack is the American alternative rock band Weezer, performing their own take of the 1984 pop hit You Might Think. Country superstar Brad Paisley, who was a major contributor to the first Cars soundtrack, returns with two new songs, including the duet Collisions of World, performed by Paisley and singer/songwriter Robbie Williams. Finally, the hit single Polyrhythm by the Japanese girl band Perfume is also featured on the release. The soundtrack will be released on June 14. To pre-order the album, visit Amazon.
