Deadline is reporting that composer Alan Silvestri is in early talks to explore a stage transfer of Robert Zemeckis’ 1985 classic Back to the Future. Apart from Silvestri, Zemeckis and his company ImageMovers, as well as Back to the Future producer and writer Bob Gale also appear to be involved in the project. The production would mark the composer’s first Broadway production. Silvestri has been the composer of all Zemeckis-directed films since 1984’s Romancing the Stone, including Forrest Gump, for which he received his first Academy Award nomination and most recently, A Christmas Carol and Beowulf. The composer’s upcoming projects also include Joss Whedon’s comic book adaptation of The Avengers, one of the most anticipated movies of the year.

Coinciding with the 75th birthday of Philip Glass on January 31, several interviews have appeared online, including a 30-minute video conversation with the Academy Award-nominated composer in CET Connect’s Focus series, in which he talks about his life and career, including his work for movies and the concert hall is and the world premiere of his Second Cello Concerto Life Reflected. The article also confirms the composer’s involvement in Oldboy director Chan-woon Park’s Stoker. The film starring Matthew Goode, Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman, Dermot Mulroney and Jacki Weaver marks the director’s English language debut and centers on a teenage girl who must deal with the unexpected appearance of a mysterious uncle following the death of her father. ‘The Innkeepers’ Soundtrack Released

MovieScoreMedia’s Screamworks Records label has released a soundtrack album for the horror thriller The Innkeepers. The album features the original score from the movie by composer Jeff Grace. The soundtrack was released digitally earlier this week and is available to download on iTunes. A limited CD edition is coming out on February 7, 2012 and can be pre-ordered on Screen Archives. ‘Act of Valor’ Soundtrack Details

Relativity Music Group will be releasing the soundtrack album for the war movie Act of Valor. The album features the film’s songs by country artists including Keith Urban, Sugarland, Lady Antebellum, Jake Owen, Trace Adkins, Lori McKenna and Josh Kelley. The soundtrack will be released on February 21, 2012 and is available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out below. None of Nathan Furst’s original score from the film is included. Act of Valor directed by Scott Waugh & Mike “Mouse” McCoy centers on a group of active-duty Navy SEALs that is sent across the globe as they track the terrorist ring to the U.S.-Mexico border. Alexandre Desplat to Score Peter Webber’s ‘Emperor’

Director Peter Webber has announced on Twitter (via The Film Stage) that Alexandre Desplat is attached to score the upcoming political thriller Emperor. The movie starring Matthew Fox and Tommy Lee Jones is set in Japan amidst the uncertainties of the days following the nation’s surrender at the end of World War II, when General Douglas MacArthur as the Supreme Commander of the occupying forces and the leading Japanese expert on his staff are faced with the decision if Emperor Hirohito should be tried and hanged as a war criminal. David Klass (Walking Tall) and Vera Blasi are writing the screenplay based on the historic events. Yoko Narahashi (The Last Samurai), Gary Foster (Daredevil, Ghost Rider), Russ Krasnoff (The Soloist) and Eugene Nomura are producing. Desplat has previously collaborated with Webber on 2003’s The Girl with a Pearl Earring, for which the composer received his first Golden Globe nomination and which put him on the map in Hollywood. Walt Disney Records will release the official soundtrack album for the epic sci-fi adventure John Carter. The album includes the original score from the movie written by Academy Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino. The soundtrack will be released on March 6, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips from the album below. Nicholas Hooper Scoring ‘Birdsong’

Nicholas Hooper has scored the Working Title Television two part serial Birdsong. The mini-series directed by Philip Martin (Prime Suspect 7: The Final Act) based on the bestselling novel by Sebastian Faulks (Charlotte Gray) has been adapted for the screen by Abi Morgan (The Iron Lady, Shame). The movie set against the First World War tells the story of a soldier who finds himself fighting in the area where he had an illicit affair before the war. The cast includes Eddie Redmayne and Clemence Poesy. Lynn Horsford (Boy A) is producing the project. The two-part film premiered on BBC over the last two weeks. One of the best received films that premiered at the festival is the drama Smashed directed by James Ponsoldt (Off the Black). The film stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Paul as s a married couple whose bond is built on a mutual love of alcohol and whose relationship is put to the test when the wife decides to get sober. The cast also includes Octavia Spencer, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally and Mary Kay Place. Ponsoldt co-wrote the screenplay with Susan Burke and Jennifer Cochis, Jonathan Schwartz, Andrea Sperling (Like Crazy) are producing. The film’s music is written by Andy Cabic and Eric D. Johnson. While the project marks Cabic’s feature scoring debut, Johnson has previously written the music for the Uma Thurman-starring romance Ceremony and co-scored last year’s indie comedy Our Idiot Brother starring Paul Rudd. Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the action drama The Grey directed by Joe Carnahan and starring Liam Neeson, Dermot Mulroney, Dallas Roberts, Joe Anderson and James Badge Dale. The film’s music is composed by Marc Streitenfeld who has become go-to composer of Ridley Scott (who is producing The Grey) over the last couple of years, having previously scored such films as American Gangster and Robin Hood. Also opening wide is the action thriller Man on a Ledge directed by Asger Leth and starring Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks, Ed Harris, Jamie Bell, Anthony Mackie, Genesis Rodriguez, Edward Burns and Kyra Sedgwick. Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class, Puss in Boots) has written the music for the film. Summit Entertainment has released a soundtrack album featuring Jackman’s music. The album is already available to download and the CD version will be released on February 7. Craig Wedren is scoring the upcoming indie comedy drama Thanks for Sharing. The film marks the directorial debut of Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Stuart Blumberg (The Kids Are All Right) and stars Mark Ruffalo, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim Robbins, Joely Richardson, Patrick Fugit, Josh Gad and Alecia Moore. The movie revolves around a group of unlikely friends who are brought together through their shared determination to recover from sex addiction and forge meaningful relationships for the first time in their lives.
