Aladeen Records has released a soundtrack album for the Sacha Baron Cohen-starring comedy The Dictator. The album features the songs from the film by artists including Jalal Hamdaou & Driver, Khaled, Michelle J. Nasser, Jalal Hamdaoui & Cheb Raya and a cover version of Everybody Hurts by Mc Ral. Also included are two original songs by Erran Baron Cohen who also served as the movie’s composer. The soundtrack has been released today, May 8 and is now available to download on Amazon. The Dictator is directed by Larry Charles (Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Glorious Benefit Nation of Kazakhstan, Bruno) and follows a heroic dictator who risks his life to ensure that democracy never comes to the country he so lovingly oppressed. Alan Silvestri has revealed in a recent interview with Hollywood.com that he is attached to score Dreamworks Animation’s upcoming feature The Croods. The film written and directed by Chris Sanders and Kirk DeMicare follows The Croods, an introverted family, who find themselves guided out of their cave into this dynamic world by a resourceful newcomer who may bring more stress than relief to the patriarch of the family. The film’s voice talent includes Ryan Reynolds, Nicolas Cage, Catherine Keener, Emma Stone, Clark Duke and Cloris Leachman. The 3D animated feature is produced by Kristine Belson (How to Train Your Dragon) and Jane Hartwell (Shrek). The movie marks Silvestri’s first project for Dreamworks Animation. Christophe Beck is scoring the upcoming comedy The Guilt Trip. The film directed by Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, 28 Dresses) stars Seth Rogen as an inventor who invites his overbearing mother, played by Barbra Streisand, on a cross-country trip as he tries to sell his new product while also reuniting her with a lost love. Yvonne Strahovski, Colin Hanks and Adam Scott are co-starring. Dan Fogelman (Crazy.Stupid.Love, Cars) has written the screenplay and Evan Goldberg (Superbad, The Green Hornet), Lorne Michaels (30 Rock, Mean Girls) & John Goldwyn (Dexter,Baby Mama) are producing the Paramount Pictures production. The film’s original music is composed by Elia Cmiral (Ronin, Stigmata). The album will be released digitally on May 22, 2012 and physically on June 19, 2012. ‘Piranha 3DD’ Soundtrack Announced

Lakeshore Records has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the horror film sequel Piranha 3DD. The album features the songs from the movie by artists including Marcus Latief Scott, Twirl, Automatic Music Explosion, The One & Only’s, All The Right Moves, Sarah Khula, Cellphish and The Limousines. The soundtrack will be released digitally on May 22, 2012 and on physically on May 29. To pre-order the CD, visit Amazon. Audio clips will be added to this article later this month. The label is also releasing a separate soundtrack featuring the film’s score composed by Elia Cmiral (click here for the details). Piranha 3DD is directed by John Gulager (Feast trilogy) and stars Ving Rhames, Christopher Llyod, Paul Scheer, Danielle Panabaker, Gary Busey, Katrina Bowden, David Koechner, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, Megan Tandy and David Hasselhoff. Trevor Rabin has been tapped to score the ABC drama pilot Zero Hour. The show is created by Paul Scheuring (Prison Break) and stars Anthony Edwards (ER) as a former editor of a skeptics magazine who becomes involved in one the most compelling conspiracies in human history when his wife is kidnapped. Michael Nyqvist (Girl With The Dragon Tattoo), Jacinda Barrett, Addison Timlin, Carmen Ejogo and Scott Michael Foster (Greek) are co-starring. Pierre Morel (Taken, From Paris With Love) is directing the pilot. Howe Records will be releasing the soundtrack album for David Cronenberg’s upcoming drama Cosmopolis. The album features the film’s original score by Academy Award-winning composer Howard Shore performed by the indie rock band Metric. The composer has also co-written three original songs with the Canadian band. Also featured on the soundtrack is the song Mecca by Somali singer/rapper K’NAAN. Cosmopolis is based on the novel by Don DeLillo and stars Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche and Paul Giamatti. Edward Shearmur has signed on to score ABC’s drama pilot Devious Maids. The show is created by Marc Cherry (Desperate Housewives) and stars Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez and Judy Reyes as four maids with ambition and dreams of their own who work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills. Brett Cullen, Brianna Brown, Drew Van Acker and Susan Lucci are co-starring. Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin, Wicker Park) is directing the pilot. Cherry has written the pilot’s script and is executive producing the show with actress Eva Longoria who makes her TV series producing debut. Also executive producing are Sabrina Wind, Paul Presburger, David Lonner, Larry Shuman, John Mass and Michael Garcia. Cherry’s current hit show Desperate Housewives, which is its series finale in a few weeks is scored by Steve Jablonsky and features a main titles theme by Danny Elfman. Read the rest of this entry »

Already beating box office records is the comic book adaptation The Avengers written and directed by Joss Whedon and starring Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg and Samuel L. Jackson. The film’s score is composed by Alan Silvestri. The composer’s score has been released digitally on Hollywood Records and in an expanded form on CD by Intrada Records. Opening in limited release is the comedy The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel directed by John Madden and starring Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel and Tom Wilkinson. Thomas Newman has composed the film’s music. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score has been released by Sony Classical earlier this week in the US. Marco Beltrami has been hired to score the upcoming post-apocalyptic thriller Snowpiercer. The film marks the English-language feature debut of Korean director Bong Joon-ho (Mother, The Host) and stars Chris Pine, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, John Hurt, Kenny Doughty and Octavia Spencer. The movie is set in a future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an Ice Age kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. Bong has co-written the screenplay with Kelly Masterson (Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead). Chan-wook Park (Oldboy) is producing the independent production.
