‘The Pact’ Soundtrack Announced

Movie Score Media’s Screamworks Records will be releasing a soundtrack album for the horror film The Pact. The album includes the original score composed by Ronen Landa, which features performances by violinist Anna Bulbrook (of indie rock band The Airborne Toxic Event) and pianist Dan Tepfer. The soundtrack will be released on June 12, 2012. The Pact is directed by Nicholas McCarthy and stars Caity Lotz, Haley Hudson, Kathleen Rose Perkins, Sam Ball, Mark Steger, Dakota Bright, Agnes Bruckner and Casper Van Dien. The movie follows a woman who is struggling to deal with the  aftermath of her mother’s death while discovering terrifying truths about her family’s past and the house she grew up in. Clint Mansell is scoring the upcoming psychological thriller Stoker. The film is helmed by Korean director Park Chan-wook (Oldboy) and stars Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode, Dermot Mulroney and Jacki Weaver. The Fox Searchlight Pictures production centers on a teenage girl who must deal with the unexpected appearance of a mysterious uncle following the death of her father. Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) has written the film’s script under the pseudonym Ted Foulke. Ridley and Tony Scott, as well as Michael Costigan (Being Flynn, Smart People) are producing the director’s first English language feature film through their Scott Free Productions company. It has previously been reported that Academy Award-winner Philip Glass was involved as the composer of the mystery thriller earlier this year. Read the rest of this entry »

Only one new movie is opening in wide release this weekend:

Expected to top the weekend box office is Universal Pictures’ epic fantasy adventure Snow White and the Huntsman directed by Rupert Sanders and starring Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Lily Cole, Sam Claflin, Sam Spruell, Ian McShane, Nick Frost, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones and Eddie Marsan. The film’s score is composed by James Newton Howard. The composer was also involved in the original song Breath Of Life by Florence + the Machine, which is featured on the soundtrack album along with the score and is available on Universal Republic. Opening in semi-wide is the historical epic For Greater Glory (aka Cristiada) directed by Dean Wright about the Cristeros War (1926-1929) and starring Andy Garcia, Eva Longoria, Bruce Greenwood, Nestor Carbonell and Peter O’Toole. James Horner has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. Horner recorded his score with a 100-piece orchestra in May of last year at Abbey Road Studios in London. Johan Söderqvist will be recording his orchestral score for the epic drama Kon-Tiki this weekend at Abbey Road Studios in London. The film directed by Espen Sandberg & Joachim Rønning (Bandidas, Max Manus) marks Norway’s most expensive feature film to date and tells the story of Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl’s voyage on a balsa-wood raft across the Pacific Ocean in 1947. Heyerdahl and his crew traveled  across open sea to prove his scientific theory that the Polynesian people originally came from Peru in South America. The film’s cast includes Pål Sverre Hagen, Agnes Kittelsen, Odd-Magnus Williamson, Tobias Santelmann, Donald Baasmo Christiansen, James Oftebro and Gustaf Skarsgård and Søren Pilmark. Jeremy Thomas (The Last Emperor, A Dangerous Method, Sexy Beast) and Aage Aaberge (Strings) are producing the Nordisk Film Production project. Read the rest of this entry »

NME.com is reporting that composer Ilan Eshkeri and Tim Wheeler are scoring the upcoming British music drama Spike Island. The film is directed by Mat Whitecross (The Road to Guantanamo) and stars Elliott Tittensor (Shameless) and Matthew McNulty (Misfits) as the members of an aspiring band who take a trip to see their idols, the Stone Roses, play the now-legendary Spike Island concert, which is also known as the “baggy Woodstock” and took place in 1990 as the Madchester scene was at its height. The Stone Roses have given permission to use their music for the film. Lesley Manville (Another Year) and Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) are also among the cast members. Chris Coghill has written the screenplay and Fiona Neilson and Esther Douglas are producing the Fiesta Productions film. Read the rest of this entry »

Silverscreen Music has released a soundtrack album for the family drama Cowgirls n’ Angels. The album features the film’s original score composed by Alan Williams. The soundtrack is now available digitally on Amazon. Audio clips from all 25 tracks on the album can be checked out after the jump. Cowgirls n’ Angels is directed by Timothy Armstrong and stars Bailee Madison, Alicia Witt, Kathleen Rose Perkins, Frankie Faison, Madison Burge, Jackson Rathbone and James Cromwell. The film follows a rebellious young girl who is searching for her father, a rodeo rider, whose identity her mom has kept from her. Lyle Workman Scoring ’21 and Over’

Lyle Workman is the composer of the upcoming comedy 21 and Over. The film marks the directorial debut of screenwriters Jon Lucas & Scott Moore (The Hangover, The Change-Up) and centers on a group of friends who drag their straight-arrow buddy out to celebrate his 21st birthday the night before an important medical school interview. The movie’s cast includes Miles Teller (Footloose), Justin Chon (The Twilight Saga), Skylar Astin (Taking Woodstock) and Sarah Wright (The House Bunny). David Hobermann & Todd Lieberman (The Fighter, The Proposal), Andy Yan and Hugo Shong are producing the Relativity Media and Sky Land Entertainment production. 21 and Over marks the first project which partners the US company with an arm of the Chinese government. The comedy was also partially shot in China and is the first of many projects that Relativity plans to shoot and do post-production work in the country. Read the rest of this entry »

Curb Records has announced the official soundtrack album for the drama The Last Ride inspired by the mysterious final days of country star Hank Williams’ mercurial life. The album features two tracks from the film’s score by Benjy Gaither, as well as a number of the country songs featured in the movie performed by artists including Jett Williams, Russ Taff, Rebecca Frasier, Wes Hampton, Sarah Johns, Doug Anderson, Michael English, Nathan Young and Johnny Cash & Waylon Jennings. Nathan Barr has revealed in a recent interview at the BMI Film and Television Music Awards that he will be scoring Eli Roth’s upcoming Netflix original series Hemlock Grove. The show created by Brian McGreevey & Lee Shipman and based on McGreevy’s upcoming goth horror novel revolves around the murder of a young girl found close to the former Godfrey steel mill. The series’ cast includes Famke Janssen, Dougray Scott, Landon Liboiron and Bill Skarsgard. Roth is directing the pilot as well as the final two episodes. The Gaumont International Television production is executive produced by McGreevy, Eric Newman (The Last Exorcism, Dawn of the Dead, Children of Men) Michael Connolly (How to Train Your Dragon) and Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Gallactica). ABKCO Records will be releasing the soundtrack album for the indie comedy Safety Not Guaranteed. The album features the original score by Ryan Miller who is best known as the lead singer and principal songwriter for the alt-rock band Guster that also has a song featured on the soundtrack. Also included is the song Big Machine by actor/director Mark Duplass, as well as tracks by Summer Fiction, Hearts on Fire and The Hoppin’ Haole Brothers. The soundtrack will be released digitally on June 5, 2012 and will be available to download on Amazon. Audio clips from all tracks on the album can be checked out after the jump.
