Steve Mazzaro is scoring the upcoming action thriller Bullet to the Head. The film is directed by Walter Hill (48 Hrs., Red Heat, Last Man Standing) and stars Sylvester Stallone as a hitman who forms an alliance with a cop to exact revenge on the killer of their respective partners. Sung Kang, Jason Momoa, Sarah Shahi and Christian Slater are co-starring in the movie based on the French graphic novel Du Plomb Dans La Tete written by Alexis Nolent. This past Tuesday, La-La Land Records has released a 3-CD deluxe edition of Jerry Goldsmith‘s classic score for 1979’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The album presents the score for the original theatrical release and also premieres the early “rejected” cues that Goldsmith recorded prior to composing his famous main theme. Also included is the 1979 album program, as well as additional alternates and bonus tracks. The soundtrack is limited to 10,000 copies. Sony Masterworks will be releasing the official soundtrack album for Woody Allen’s new romantic comedy To Rome With Love. The album includes a number of famous arias from such operas as Tosca, Turandot and La Traviata, as well as several classic Italian love songs that are featured in the film. Steve Jablonsky to Score ‘Gangster Squad’

Steve Jablonsky (Transformers, Battleship) has signed on to score the upcoming crime drama Gangster Squad. The composer is taking over scoring duties from Carter Burwell who has previously been announced as the composer of the film. No word yet on whether any of Burwell’s music will remain in the picture. The movie is directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) and stars Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin, Nick Nolte, Anthony Mackie, Giovanni Ribisi and Michael Pena. The drama produced by Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes), Kevin McCormick (The Lucky One) and Michael Tadross (Arthur) tells the story of the events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time. Stanley Clarke has composed the score for the upcoming cop drama Freelancers. The film is directed by Jessy Terrero (Soul Plane) and stars Robert De Niro, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Forest Whitaker, Ryan O’Nan, Dana Delany, Beau Garrett and Malcolm Goodwin. The movie follows the son of a murdered NYPD police officer who gains the patronage of his father’s former partner and joins his rogue task force. Jackson, Randall Emmett & George Furla (16 Blocks, Righteous Kill) are producing the Cheetah Vision and Emmett/Furla Films production. L. Philippe Casseus has written the project’s screenplay. The crime drama marks Clarke’s first scoring assignment in several years. His most recent credits include the 2008 films Soul Men starring Samuel L. Jackson & Bernie Mac and First Sunday starring Ice Cube. The composer who is also known as a jazz composer and bass player has previously written the scores for such hit films as Boyz n the Hood, Passengers 57, The Transporter and Romeo Must Die.
