Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the action thriller Parker. The album features the film’s original score composed by David Buckley (The Town, The Forbidden Kingdom). The soundtrack will be released digitally on January 22, 2013 and physically on January 29 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out after the jump. Parker is directed by Taylor Hackford and stars Jason Statham, Jennifer Lopez, Nick Nolte and Michael Chicklis. The movie is based on the bestselling novels by Donald E. Jacob Groth Scoring ‘Dead Man Down’

Jacob Groth is reteaming with director Niels Arden Oplev on the upcoming crime thriller Dead Man Down. The film stars Colin Farrell as a professional killer and the right-hand man to an underground crime lord in New York City who is seduced and blackmailed by a crime victim seeking retribution. Noomi Rapace, Terrence Howard, Dominic Cooper, Armand Assante and Isabelle Huppert are co-starring. J.H. Wyman (Fringe, The Mexican) has written the screenplay and is also producing the Original Film and Frequency Films production with Neal Moritz (I Am Legend, Fast Five, 21 Jump Street). Groth and Oplev have previously worked together numerous times, most notably on the Swedish original The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo film, as well as the CBS crime series Unforgettable. Cutting Edge Group Acquires Varèse Sarabande Record Label

The New York Times and Variety are reporting that the Cutting Edge Group and its partner Wood Creek Capital Management have acquired the soundtrack record label Varèse Sarabande. With the purchase of the label, Cutting Edge will extend its portfolio that includes the management of music rights, the representation of composers and upfront investment in the music for films. According to the article, the plan for Varèse Sarabande is to increase its output by half to at least 60 soundtracks a year under the new ownership. It is expected that the label will release most or all of the soundtracks for the films that Cutting Edge will be working on. Among the upcoming projects that Cutting Edge is involved in are Steven Soderbergh’s Side Effects, which features a score composed by Thomas Newman, as well as Taylor Hackford’s Parker scored by David Buckley. Both scores will be released on the Varèse label.

WMI Italy will release a soundtrack album for Giuseppe Tornatore’s drama The Best Offer (La migliore offerta). The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Ennio Morricone who previously collaborated with the director on such films as Cinema Paradiso and The Legend of 1900. The soundtrack is set to be released digitally on January 8, 2013. No word yet on a domestic release. The Best Offer is written and directed by Tornatore and stars Geoffrey Rush, Jim Sturgess, Sylvia Hoeks and Donald Sutherland. Roc Music Studios has released a soundtrack album for Jackie Chan’s action film Chinese Zodiac aka CZ12. The album features the film’s score composed by Roc Chen. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon. Audio clips are available after the jump. None of co-composer Nathan Wang’s music is featured on the release. Chinese Zodiac is written, directed and produced by Jackie Chan who also stars in the film as Asian Hawk, a role he previsouly played in Armour of God and Operation Condor, who attempts to search out the twelve mystical bronze sculpture heads of animals in the Chinese zodiac. Scott Glasgow to Score ‘Hatchet III’

Scott Glasgow is currently scoring the upcoming horror sequel Hatchet III. The movie starring Danielle Harris and Kane Hodder, Caroline Williams and Sean Whalen picks up where Hatchet II left off, as a young woman sought revenge on the monster that killed her family while they were fishing in Louisiana swamp country. The film marks the directorial debut of BJ McDonnell who served as a cameraman on the first two Hatchet installments. The creator of the series, Adam Green, has written the screenplay and is executing the ArieScope Pictures and Dark Sky Films production. Only one movie is opening in wide release this weekend:
Opening in over 2600 theaters is the horror sequel Texas Chainsaw 3D directed by John Luessenhop (Takers, Lockdown) and starring Alexandra Daddario, Tania Raymonde, Thom Barry, Dan Yaeger and Trey Songz. The film’s music is composed by John Frizzell (Alien: Resurrection, Legion, The Roommate). No soundtrack album has been announced at this point. The movie is set immediately after the original film and follows a young woman who travels to Texas to collect an inheritance that includes Leatherface. Quartet Records has announced the details of the soundtrack release for the supernatural thriller Mama. The album features the film’s original score composed and conducted by Fernando Velazquez (The Impossible, Devil). Rick Smith has composed the score for the upcoming thriller Trance. The film is directed by Danny Boyle and stars James McAvoy, Vincent Cassel and Rosario Dawson. The movie follows a fine art auctioneer mixed up with a criminal gang who joins forces with a hypnotherapist to recover a lost painting. The thriller is based on a BBC film written by Joe Ahearne who has penned the screenplay for the project with John Hodge (Trainspotting, Shallow Grave). Christian Colson (Slumdog Millionaire) is producing the Film4 presentation of a Cloud Eight/Decibel Films production. Smith is best known as a member of the British electronic music group Underworld. Boyle has previously collaborated with the group on the 1996 drama Trainspotting, the sci-fi film Sunshine, as well the opening ceremony of last year’s Olympic Games in London. A soundtrack album has been announced for the Syfy original series Being Human. The album features selections from the show’s score from seasons 1 & 2 composed by FM Le Sieur. Being Human based on the BBC series of the same name follows three roommates who struggle to keep their supernatural secrets and resist individual temptations as they strive to live lives that are as near to normal as possible.
