The movie stars Dermot Mulroney, Stefanie Scott, Lin Shaye, Steve Coulter, Angus Sampson, Hayley Kiyoko, Ashton Moio, as well as Whannell himself. The film is set before the haunting of the Lambert family and reveals how Elise Rainier reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity. James Wan (The Conjuring, Furious 7) who directed the first two installments is producing the project with Jason Blum (Whiplash, The Purge) for Blumhouse Productions and Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity).
