grandmasterNathaniel Mechaly has composed a new score for the international version of the martial arts epic The Grandmaster. The film is directed by Wong Kar-Wai (In the Mood for Love, My Blueberry Nights) and stars Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Zhang Ziyi, Chang Chen, Wang Qingxiang, Zhang Jin, Zhao Benshan and Song Hye-kyo. The movie is a biopic of martial artist Ip Man, who practiced the art of Wing Chun and is best known as the man who taught Bruce Lee. Kar-Wai is producing the Jet Tone Films and Sil-Metropole Organization production with Jacky Pang Yee-wah. Shigeru Umebayashi composed a score for the version that was released in China last month. jack-ryanPatrick Doyle has been hired to score the upcoming action thriller Jack Ryan. The reboot of the franchise based on the characters created by Tom Clancy is directed by Kenneth Branagh and stars Chris Pine in the title role as an ex-Marine who works as a successful financial analyst in Moscow and discovers a plot by his employer to finance a terrorist attack designed to collapse the U.S. economy, and must race against time to save America and his wife. Keira Knightley, Kevin Costner and Branagh himself are co-starring. Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers series, Red, Salt) is producing the project with Mace Neufeld (The Hunt for Red OctoberInvictus) and David Barron (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Hamlet). ozIntrada Records and Walt Disney Records will release the official soundtrack album for Sam Raimi’s upcoming fantasy adventure Oz the Great and Powerful. The album features the film’s score composed by Danny Elfman who has previously worked with the director on the first two Spider-Man movies, as well as on the features A Simple Plan and Army of Darkness. No word yet on the release date, but the track titles can be checked out after the jump. cahillIntrada Records has announced the world premiere release of the soundtrack for the 1973 western Cahill United States Marshal directed by Andrew V. McLaglen and starring John Wayne, George Kennedy and Gary Grimes. The music is composed and conducted by Elmer Bernstein. The album features the complete score from the film, including an unused cue for the ending, as well as the song A Man Gets to Thinkin’ performed by Charlie Rich, written by Bernstein with lyrics by Don Black. mason-daringMason Daring is reuniting with director John Sayles on the upcoming indie drama Go for Sisters. The film stars Edward James Olmos, LisaGay Hamilton, Yolonda Ross, Harold Perrineau, Hector Elizondo and Isaiah Washington. The movie follows two friends who lose track of each other for twenty years and are reunited when one of them is assigned as the parole officer for the other, who is fresh out of prison and fighting heroin addiction. Sayles has also written the screenplay and Alejandro Springall, Peter Bobrow and Edward James Olmos are producing. The soundtrack will be released on February 26, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A Place at the Table directed by Kristi Jacobson (Toots) and Lori Silverbush examines the issue of hunger in America through the lens of three people struggling with food insecurity. The film features Top Chef’s Tom Colicchio, actor Jeff Bridges, and more. The movie premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival and has been picked by Magnolia Pictures. The other contenders in the category were Alexandre Desplat for Rise of the Guardians, Bruce Retief for Adventures in Zambezia, Joel McNeely, Brendan Milburn & Valerie Vigoda for Secret of the Wings, John Powell, Adam Schlesinger & Ester Dean for Ice Age: Continental Drift, John Powell & Cinco Paul for Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, Mark Mothersbaugh for Hotel Transylvania and Patrick Doyle, Mark Andrews & Alex Mandel for Brave. David Newman to Score ‘Tarzan’ 3D

tarzanDavid Newman has officially signed on to score the upcoming 3D animated feature Tarzan. The film is directed by Reinhard Klooss and features the voice talent of Kellan Lutz, Spencer Locke, Anton Zetterholm, Mark Deklin, Trevor St. John and Jaime Ray Newman. The updated version of the classic Edgar Rice Burroughs tale is written by Klooss, Jessica Postigo (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones) and Yoni Brenner (Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs). Klooss is also producing the Constantin Film and Ambient Entertainment production with Robert Kulzer (Resident Evil series, Wrong Turn). Martin Moszckovicz (Carnage) is executive producing.
