Only one new movie is opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the superhero film The Wolverine directed by James Mangold and starring Hugh Jackman, Famke Janssen, Will Yun Lee, Brian Tee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tao Okamoto and Rila Fukushim. The film’s music is composed by Marco Beltrami (World War Z, Scream) who previously scored Mangold’s 3:10 to Yuma. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. Opening semi-wide is the comedy The To Do List directed by Maggie Carey and starring Aubrey Plaza, Johnny Simmons, Bill Hader, Alia Shawkat, Rachel Bilson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Andy Samberg, Donald Glover and Connie Britton. Universal Music Enterprises has released a soundtrack album featuring the film’s songs including a number of 90s classics by Tears for Fears, Cranberries, Mazzy Star, House of Love, Elastica, Gin Blossoms and Big Head Todd and the Monsters. Naïve Records will release a soundtrack album for Claire Denis’ French thriller Bastards (Les salauds). The album features the film’s original music composed by the Tindersticks. The British rock band has previously collaborated with the director on a number of projects. The soundtrack will be released digitally on August 3, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on
Mychael Danna is currently scoring the upcoming psychological thriller Queen of the Night. The film is directed by Atom Egoyan and stars Ryan Reynolds, Mireille Enos, Bruce Greenwood, Scott Speedman, Rosario Dawson and Kevin Durand. The movie follows a father of an abducted child who finds a series of clues that convince him that the girl is still alive. Egoyan has co-written the screenplay with David Fraser and is also producing the Ego Film Arts and The Film Farm production with Simone Urdl & Jennifer Weiss (Away from Her, Redaction) and Stephen Traynor. Danna has previously scored all of Egoyan’s major features of the last two decades including The Sweet Hereafter, Exotica, Where the Truth Lies, Chloe, Ararat and Felicia’s Journey.
MovieScore Media will release a soundtrack album for the Hallmark Channel original movie Shuffleton’s Barbershop. The album features the film’s original score written by Emmy-nominated composer Lawrence Shragge (Haven, When Love Is Not Enough: The Lois Wilson Story). The soundtrack will be released digitally on July 30, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on
Jeremy Sams has reteamed with director Roger Michell on the upcoming comedy drama Le Week-End. The movie starring Jim Broadbent, Lindsay Duncan and Jeff Goldblum follows a long-married couple who visit Paris for the first time since their honeymoon to revitalize their marriage and meet an old friend who gives them a new view of life and love. Hanif Kureishi (Venus, My Beautiful Laundrette) has written the screenplay and Kevin Loader (Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, In the Loop, Nowhere Boy) is producing the project. Sams has previously collaborated with Michell on the features Persuasion, Enduring Love, The Mother and last year’s Hyde Park on Hudson.
La-La Land Records will release a soundtrack album for the Syfy original series Caprica. The album features selections from the show’s original score composed by Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). Also included are two songs from the series performed by Young Beautiful in a Hurry. The soundtrack will be released as a 2CD-set on July 30, 2013. Caprica is set 58 years before Battlestar Galactica and follows two rival families as they grow, compete, and thrive in the vibrant world of the peaceful 12 Colonies, living in a society close to our own. The sci-fi drama is created by Remi Aubuchon & Ronald D. Moore and stars Eric Stoltz, Esai Morales, Paula Malcomson, Alessandra Torresani, Magda Apanowicz, Sasha Roiz, Brian Markinson and Polly Walker.
Rachel Portman is the composer of the upcoming romantic comedy The Right Kind of Wrong. The movie is directed by Jeremiah Chechik (Christmas Vacation, Diabolique, The Avengers) and stars Ryan Kwanten as a struggling writer who meets the girl of his dreams at her own wedding. Catherine O’Hara, Will Sasso and Sara Canning are co-starring. The film is based on the novel Sex and Sunsets by Tim Dandlin and was adapted for the screen by Megan Martin. Robert Lantos (Eastern Promises, Being Julia, Barney’s Version) is producing the Serendipity Point Film production with Ari Lantos. Chechik has previously collaborated with Portman on the 1993 comedy Benny & Joon starring Johnny Depp.
Metropolis Movie Music will release a soundtrack album for the action movie 2 Guns. The album features the film’s original score composed by Clinton Shorter (District 9) who previously collaborated with director Baltasar Kormákur on last year’s Contraband.
