Trevor Morris to Score NBC’s ‘Dracula’

Trevor Morris has signed on to score the upcoming NBC drama Dracula. The show is created by Daniel Knauf (Carnivàle) and stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Jessica De Gouw, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Katie McGrath, Thomas Kretschmann and Nonso Anozie. The series is set in 1890s London and follows Dracula as he arrives in Town posing as an American entrepreneur who maintains that he wants to bring modern science to Victorian society, but hopes to wreak revenge on the people who ruined his life centuries earlier. Knauf is also executive producing the NBC Universal Television production with Tony Krantz (24, Sports Night), Colin Callender and Gareth Neame (Downton Abbey). Steve Shill (Obsessed) who previously helmed numerous episodes of the Rhys Meyers-starring and Morris-scored The Tudors directed the pilot episode. Read the rest of this entry »

tims-vermeerConrad Pope is the composer of the upcoming documentary Tim’s Vermeer. The film is directed by Teller of Penn & Teller fame and follows Tim Jenison, a Texas based inventor, as he attempts to solve the mystery of how 17th century Dutch Master Johannes Vermeer (Girl with a Pearl Earring) managed to paint so photo-realistically,150 years before the invention of photography. The movie chronicles Jenisen’s decade-long journey, including a trip to Delft, Holland, where Vermeer painted his masterpieces, a pilgrimage to the North coast of Yorkshire to meet artist David Hockney and eventually a trip to Buckingham Palace, to see the Queen’s Vermeer. Teller’s stage partner Penn Jillette and Farley Ziegler are producing the project. Pope’s previous credits as a composer include 2011’s My Week with Marilyn and 2001’s Pavilion of Women. He is also known as an orchestrator for such A-list composers as John Williams, James Horner, Alexandre Desplat, James Newton Howard and Alan Silvestri.  Read the rest of this entry »

the-warriorsLa-La Land Records has announced the details of a new soundtrack release for the Paramount Pictures 1979 action thriller The Warrior directed by Walter Hill and starring Michael Beck, James Remar and Deborah Van Valkenburg. The release features a remastered version of the original A&M album presentation, with songs from Joe Walsh, Arnold McCuller, Johnny Vastano, Genya Ravan, Kenny Vance & Ismael Miranda and Desmond Child. great-train-robberyPaul Englishby has recently recorded his score for the upcoming BBC mini-series The Great Train Robbery. The two-part movie written by Chris Chibnall (Broadchurch, Camelot) centers the most infamous heist in British history, involving the fleecing of the Royal Mail train in 1963 by a team of thieves that made off with millions of dollars. The first part,  A Robber’s Tale, directed by Julian Jarrold (The Girl) and starring Luke Evans, Jack Roth, Neil Maskell, Paul Anderson, Martin Compston,Del Synnott and Jack Gordon tells the story from the robbers’ point of view. The second part, A Copper’s Tale, directed by James Strong (UnitedBroadchurch) and starring Jim Broadbent, Robert Glenister,Tom Chambers, Tim Pigott-Smith, Tom Beard, James Wilby and James Fox follows the detective charged with bringing the robbers to justice.  Read the rest of this entry »

a-promiseGabriel Yared has composed the music for the upcoming romantic drama A Promise. The film is directed by Patrice Leconte (The Widow of Saint-Pierre, Monsieur Hire) and stars Alan Rickman, Rebecca Hall and Richard Madden. The movie based on Stefan Zweig’s novella Journey into the Past is set in Germany just before WWI and centers on an older, wealthy man who falls hopelessly in love with her husband’s teacher. When the war breaks out and they are separated, they pledge their devotion to one another. The drama marks the English language feature debut of Leconte who has also co-written the screenplay with Jerome Tonnerre (Renoir, Intimate Strangers). Marc Missonnier & Olivier Delbosc (The Next Three Days, Swimming Pool, Enter the Void) are producing the project for Fidelite Films. Read the rest of this entry »

‘Continuum’ Soundtrack Announced

continuumLakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the sci-fi series Continuum. The album features selections from the score of the first season of the show composed by Jeff Danna (The Boondock SaintsFractureThe Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus). The soundtrack will be released digitally on August 6, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Continuum is created by Simon Barry and stars Rachel Nichols, Victor Webster  and Erik Knudsen. The show follows a  detective from the year 2077 who finds herself trapped in present day Vancouver and searching for ruthless criminals from the future. The first season of Continuum is now available on Blu-ray and DVD. The second season of the series currently airs every Friday night on Syfy and the show has already been renewed for a third season. ‘Pioneer’ to Feature Music by Air

pioneerThe French electronic music duo Air is currently scoring the upcoming Norwegian conspiracy thriller Pioneer (Pionér). The film is directed by Erik Skjoldbjærg (1997’s original Insomnia, Prozac Nation) and stars Aksel Hennie, Wes Bentley, Stephen Lang, Stephanie Sigman, André Eriksen and Jonathan LaPaglia. The movie is set in the early 80s and centers on the risky experiments and shady dealings that led to the birth of the Norwegian oil-drilling industry. Christian Fredrik Martin (Headhunters) is producing the project for Friland Films. Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Duncke who form Air have previously scored Sofia Coppola’s The Virgin Suicides and their music was also featured in numerous other films including Coppola’s Lost in Translation and Marie-Antoinette. Howe Records will release jimmy-pa soundtrack album for the upcoming drama Jimmy P.. The album features the film’s original score composed by Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings, The Silence of the Lambs, The Aviator) and written for the Dover Quartet with chamber orchestra. The soundtrack will be released on September 10, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips below. Jimmy P. is directed by Arnaud Desplechin who previously worked together with Shore on the 2000 drama Esther Khan and stars Benicio Del Toro and Mathieu Amalric. The movie is based on George Devereux’s book Reality and Dream: Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian and follows a Native American soldier, Jimmy Picard, who suffers psychologically in the aftermath of World War II and meets a French ethno-psychiatrist with a strong understanding of the modern Native American. john-williamsLucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy announced today at Star Wars Celebration Europe that John Williams will return to score the upcoming sci-fi fantasy sequel Star Wars: Episode VII. J.J. Abrams is directing the film and Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3, Little Miss Sunshine) is writing the screenplay. No plot details have been announced yet, but the characters of the original trilogy, including Luke Skywalker (played by Mark Hamill), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford) are expected to return. Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg serve as consultants, alongside George Lucas. Williams has scored all previous six episodes of the Star Wars saga.
