Matthew Margeson is currently scoring the upcoming indie thriller The Curse of Downers Grove. The film is directed by Derick Martini (Lymelife, Hick) and stars Bella Heathcote, Lucas Till, Penelope Mitchell, Kevin Zegers, Helen Slater and Tom Arnold. The movie based on a novel by Michael Hornburg is set in Downers Grove, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago and follows a paranoid high school senior who is worried about an apparent curse that takes the life of one student every year at the school. Martini has co-written the screenplay with Bret Easton Ellis (American Psycho, The Rules of Attraction). Oren Segal, Jason Dubin and Chiara Trento are producing the project. Margeson has previously scored the Segal-produced 2010 film Burning Palms. The Curse of Downers Grove is currently in post-production and is expected to be released in 2014. Sparrow Records will release a soundtrack album for the upcoming family drama Grace Unplugged. The album features the radio single All I’ve Ever Needed from AJ Michalka (formerly of Aly & AJ), as well as songs by Christian music artists including TobyMac, Chris Tomlin, Colton Dixon and Jamie Grace. The soundtrack will be released on August 27, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Grace Unplugged is directed by Brad J. Dario Marianelli has been hired to score the upcoming romantic drama Third Person. The film is written and directed by Paul Haggis and stars Liam Neeson, Mila Kunis, Adrien Brody, James Franco, Olivia Wilde, Maria Bello, Kim Basinger and Moran Atias. The movie follows three inter-connected love stories of three couples in three cities: Rome, Paris and New York. Haggis is also producing the project with Paul Breuls (The Devil’s Double, Killing Season) and Michael Nozik (Syriana, The Motorcycle Diaries). Joel McNeely’s ‘Tinker Bell’ Score Released

Intrada Records has announced the world premiere release of the score for Walt Disney Pictures’ 2008 animated feature Tinker Bell. The album featueres the film’s original music composed and conducted by Joel McNeely (Holes, Iron Will, Young Indiana Jones Chronicles). Also included are the film’s songs performed by Lorena McKennitt and Selena Gomez. The soundtrack is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also listen to audio clips. Walt Disney Records has previously released a soundtrack featuring the film’s songs, as well as McNeely’s end credits suite. Tinker Bell is directed by Bradley Raymond and features the voice talent of Mae Whitman, Kristin Chenoweth, Jane Horrocks, Anjelica Huston, Jesse McCartney, and Raven-Symone. ‘Kick-Ass 2’ Score Album Details

The details of the score album for the superhero action comedy sequel Kick-Ass 2 have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by Henry Jackman (Wreck It Ralph, X-Men: First Class) and Matthew Margeson (Transformers Prime, Skyline). The soundtrack will be released digitally on August 13, 2013. A physical deluxe extended edition including additional tracks not included on the digital version will be released on August 20 by La-La Land Records and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Michael Nyman Scoring Spike Lee’s ‘Oldboy’

Michael Nyman has taken over scoring duties on Spike Lee’s upcoming English language remake of Oldboy. The film starring Josh Brolin, Samuel L. Jackson, Elizabeth Olsen and Sharlto Copley follows an advertising executive who is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement and sets out to find out who held him hostage and why when he is inexplicably released. Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend, Thor) has written the screenplay based on Chan-wook Park’s critically acclaimed Korean film from 2003 and Roy Lee & Doug Davison (The Strangers, The Lake House), as well as Nathan Kahane (Juno, 50/50) are producing the Good Universe and Vertigo Entertainment/40 Acres & A Mule Filmworks production. ‘Burton & Taylor’ to Feature Music by John Lunn

John Lunn has composed the score for the BBC original movie Burton & Taylor. The film is directed by Richard Laxton (An Englishman in New York, Effie Gray) and stars Dominic West as Richard Burton and Helena Bonham Carter as Elizabeth Taylor. The movie centers on the famously tumultuous relationship of the Hollywood power couple during their final performance together in Noel Coward’s Private Lives in 1983. William Ivory (Made in Dagenham, The Closer You Get) has written the script. Jessica Pope (Silent Witness) is executive producing the project and Lachlan MacKinnon serves as producer. Four new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Opening in most theaters is DreamWorks Animation’s latest feature Turbo is directed by David Soren and featuring the voice talent of Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena, Luis Guzmán, Bill Hader, Richard Jenkins, Ken Jeong, Michelle Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph, Ben Schwartz, Kurtwood Smith, Snoop Dogg and Samuel L. Jackson. The film’s original score is composed by Henry Jackman (Wreck-It-Ralph, X-Men: First Class). Relativity Music Group has released three different soundtrack editions for the film: a regular edition featuring the songs from the film, as well as selections of Jackman’s music, a deluxe edition featuring more score and a score-only album.
Expected to top the weekend box office is the horror thriller The Conjuring directed by James Wan and starring Lili Taylor, Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ron Livingston, Joey King, Shanley Caswell, Haley McFarland, Mackenzie Foy, Kyla Deaver and Sterling Jerins. Joseph Bishara (Insidious, Dark Skies) has composed the film’s score. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as the film’s “family theme”composed by Mark Isham.
