amazing-spider-man-2Hans Zimmer has been tapped to score the superhero sequel The American Spider-Man 2. The film is directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Paul Giamatti, Denis Leary, Colm Feore, Chris Cooper, Sally Field, Chris Zylka, Marton Csokas and Felicity Jones. In the sequel, Peter Parker/Spider-Man faces a new villain, Electro, deals with the return of his old friend Harry Osborn and uncovers new clues about his past. Avi Arad (X-Men, Iron Man, Hulk) is producing the project with Matt Tolmach. Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (Star Trek, Transformers) & Jeff Pinkner (Alias, Fringe) have written the screenplay with a previous draft by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, White House Down). kiss-of-the-damnedSoraya Recordings will release a soundtrack album for the vampire tale Kiss of the Damned. The album features the film’s original score composed by Steven Hufsteter (Unhook the Stars), as well as songs by Brigitte Fontaine, Jane Weaver, Der Fluch and Acanthus. The soundtrack will be released on September 10, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Kiss or the Damned is written and directed by Xan Cassavetes and stars Joséphine de La Baume, Milo Ventimiglia, Roxane Mesquida, Anna Mouglalis, Michael Rapaport, Riley Keough and Ching Valdes-Aran. The film about a beautiful vampire who tries to resist the advances of a handsome, human screenwriter, but eventually gives in to temptation was relased in select theaters and on VOD earlier this year by Magnolia Pictures’ Magnet Releasing and will be relased on Blu-ray on DVD on July 23. crazy-peopleQuartet Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for the 1990 Paramount Pictures comedy Crazy People directed by Tony Bill and starring Dudley Moore and Daryl Hannah. The album features the film’s original score composed and conducted by Cliff Eidelman (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, He’s Just Not That Into You, Christopher Columbus: The Discovery). The soundtrack featuring the complete original score plus several alternate bonus tracks will be released on Friday, July 26. The album features the film’s original music composed by Joel P West, as well as songs by The Tree Ring, The Shivers and other acts performed and featured in the film. The soundtrack will be released on August 20, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Short Term 12 is written and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and stars Brie Larson, John Gallagher Jr., Kaitlyn Dever, Rami Malek and Keith Stanfield. The movie follows a twenty-something social worker who has channeled the demons of her own troubled past into a passion for helping at-risk teens. how-to-train-your-dragon-2During the DreamWorks Animation panel at Comic-Con in San Diego, it was announced that Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi will contribute three new compositions, including direct collaborations with composer John Powell, to the studio’s upcoming animated film sequel How to Train Your Dragon 2. It was also confirmed that Powell will return to compose the score following his Oscar-nominated work on the 2010 original film. The sequel is directed by Dean DeBlois (Lilo & Stitch) and features the voice talent of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, T.J. Miller, Kristen Wiig and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. They are joined by newcomers to the series, Cate Blanchett, Djimon Hounsou and Kit Harrington. The movie is set five years after the original film and follows Hiccup and Toothless as they discover a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider. cliff-martinezCliff Martinez revealed in a recent interview with Hitfix that he will be scoring the French thriller Mea Culpa. The film is directed by Fred Cavaye and stars Vincent Lindon, Gilles Lellouche and Nadine Labaki. The movie centers on a pair of police officers and long-time partners, whose lives go into a tailspin when one of them causes a tragic car accident. Jean-Baptiste Dupont and Cyril Colbeau-Justin (36th District, My Way) are producing the LGM production. Cavaye has previously collaborated with composer Klaus Badelt on two of his previous features, Point Blank and Anything for Her. comicconSince our last update on this year’s film music-related events at Comic-Con in San Diego, a couple of additional announcements have been made. Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead) has joined the panel The Anatomy of Superhero Film Music: Bringing a Comic Book to Life, which also features such participants as Marco Beltrami and Brian Tyler. It was just announced that the composer will be scoring Marvel’s upcoming superhero TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. earlier this week. As previously reported, McCreary will also participate in The Character of Music panel with Jonathan Steinberg from the upcoming Black Sails series. In addition, there will also be a live performance of the original Black Sails score with McCreary playing accordion and hurdy gurdy at a screening event on July 18 at 8:30 p.m. at Reading Cinemas (701 5th Ave).
