Joseph Bishara has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming horror thriller The Vatican Tapes. The film is directed by Mark Neveldine (Crank, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance) and stars Michael Pena, Olivia Dudley, Djimon Hounsou, Dougray Scott, Peter Andersson, Kathleen Robertson, John Patrick Amedori and Alex Sparrow. The movie follows a priest who tries to help a twentysomething woman who seems to cause death and destruction to those around her. Christopher Borrelli has written the screenplay based on an original story by himself and Chris Morgan (Wanted, Fast Five). BMI Continues to Support Sundance Institute

Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) will continue its support for Sundance Institute’s Film Music Program, which collaborates with Skywalker Sound to host the Sundance Institute Music and Sound Design Labs at Skywalker Sound. The first 2014 session of the lab begins July 8 at Skywalker Ranch and provides an opportunity for composers and directors to explore the collaborative process of writing music for feature film. At the Lab, fellows work with a variety of Creative Advisors, including film composers, sound designers, filmmakers and film industry professionals. Ennio Morricone to Receive Star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame

The Walk of Fame Selection Committee announced today that Ennio Morricone is among the 30 honorees to receive a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame in 2015. He was selected to receive a star for his live performances on stage. The Italian composer who is known for such scores as The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Once Upon a Time in the West, The Untouchables and The Mission will be one of roughly a dozen film composers receiving the honor. Previous honorees include Elmer Bernstein, Alfred Newman, Bill Conti, Maurice Jarre, Henry Mancini, Max Steiner, Victor Young, Les Baxter, Ernest Gold, Alan Menken, Randy Newman and Hans Zimmer. Marco Beltrami to Score Phillip Noyce’s ‘The Giver’

Marco Beltrami has been hired to score the upcoming sci-fi drama The Giver. The film is directed by Phillip Noyce and stars Brenton Thwaites, Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgard, Taylor Swift, Cameron Monaghan, Odeya Rush and Katie Holmes. The movie is based on the YA novel by Lois Lowry and follows a young boy who is selected for his life service as the Receiver of Memories and works with an old man who teaches him to use his unique gifts of the senses. Michael Mitnick has written the most recent version of the screenplay. Nikki Silver is producing the project with Neil Koenigsberg (A Walk on the Moon) and Bridges. The project marks Beltrami’s first collaboration with Noyce. The director has previously worked together with such composers as James Horner (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger), James Newton Howard (Salt), Howard Shore (Sliver) and Craig Armstrong (The Bone Collector). ‘The Liberator’ Soundtrack Details

Deutsche Grammaphon will release the official soundtrack album for the historical drama The Liberator (Libertador). The album features the film’s original music composed by Los Angeles Philharmonic director Gustavo Dudamel and performed by the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra. The project marks the first scoring assignment of Dudamel who consulted with John Williams in preparations for his music. The soundtrack will be released on July 29, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Liberator is directed by Alberto Arvelo and stars Edgar Ramirez, Maria Valverde, Danny Huston, Imanol Arias and Gary Lewis. The film tells the story of Simon Bolívar, the legendary Venezuelan military and political leader who helped secure independence from the Spanish empire. The complete composer guest line-up for this year’s International Film Music Festival in Cordoba has been announced. The 10th anniversary celebration of the event will be attended by the most recent Academy Award-winning composer Steven Price (Gravity), Golden Globe nominees Rolfe Kent (Sideways, Up in the Air, Election) and Abel Korzeniowski (A Single Man, W.E., Penny Dreadful), Emmy Award nominee Christopher Lennertz (Revolution, Horrible Bosses, Ride Along) and Craig Safan (The Last Starfighter). The festival will pay tribute to composer Jerry Goldsmith who was born 85 years ago and died 10 years ago. Carol Goldsmith, widow of the Academy Award-winning composer, will be attending. Marcelo Zarvos is composing the music for the upcoming indie comedy drama Brother’s Keeper. The film is directed by Academy Award-nominated producer Ross Katz (Lost in Translation, In the Bedroom) and stars Nick Kroll, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale, Joel McHale, Josh Charles and Caitlin Fitzgerald. The movie follows a young, narcissistic entrepreneur who leaves Manhattan to move in with his estranged, pregnant sister and his brother-in-law and his 3-year-old nephew, only to end up becoming their nanny. Jeff Cox (Blades of Glory) and Liz Flahive (Nurse Jackie) have written the screenplay played based on a story by Kroll, Cox and Flahive. Kroll is also producing the project with Sam Slater & Paul Bernon (Drinking Buddies), Marcus Cox & Karrie Cox and Jared Goldman. ‘Snowpiercer’ U.S. Version Soundtrack Details

Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the U.S. version of the soundtrack album for Bong Joon-ho’s post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller Snowpiercer. The album features the film’s original music composed by Marco Beltrami (World War Z, The Wolverine, Scream, 3:10 to Yuma). The soundtrack will be released physically on July 22, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A soundtrack album featuring the same content was previously released exclusively in Asia. The movie takes place after a failed global-warming experiment kills off most life on the planet and the final survivors board a train that travels around the globe via a perpetual-motion engine. Inon Zur has been tapped to score the upcoming thriller Reclaim. The film is directed by Alan White (Broken, Erskineville Kings) and stars John Cusack, Ryan Phillippe, Rachelle Lefevre, Jacki Weaver and Luis Guzman. The movie is inspired by true events and follows an American couple who head to Puerto Rico to finalize the adoption of their new daughter, a Haitian orphan, who mysteriously vanishes from their hotel room. Luke Davies has written the screenplay based on an earlier version by Carmine Gaeta.
