Ilan Eshkeri has recently recorded his score for the upcoming thriller Black Sea. The film is directed by Kevin Macdonald and stars Jude Law, Grigoriy Dobrygin, Konstantin Khabenskiy, Sergey Kolesnikov, Scoot McNairy, Ben Mendelsohn, Sergey Puskepalis, Michael Smile, David Threlfall and Jodie Whittaker. The movie follows a rogue submarine captain who, after being laid off from a salvage company, pulls together a misfit crew to go after a sunken treasure rumored to be lost in the depths of the Black Sea. Dennis Kelly (Utopia) has written the screenplay. Macdonald is also producing the project with Charles Steel (Marley) for Cowboy Films. The director has previously collaborated with such composers as Alex Heffes (The Last King of Scotland, State of Play), Atli Orvarsson (The Eagle) and Jon Hopkins (How I Live Now). ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Deluxe Edition Soundtrack Announced

Varese Sarabande has announced a deluxe edition for J.J. Abrams’ 2013 sci-fi action adventure Star Trek Into Darkness as the label’s latest release in the CD Club series. The 2-CD set is limited to 6000 copies and features the film’s expanded score composed by Michael Giacchino (Up, The Incredibles, Lost, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Ratatouille). Visit the label’s website to order the soundtrack and listen to audio clips. Varese has previously released the regular soundtrack album when the film opened in theaters last summer and also released a deluxe edition of Giacchino’s’ first Star Trek score. Reinhold Heil’s ‘Haunt’ Score Released

Varese Sarabande has announced a soundtrack release for the horror thriller Haunt. The album features the film’s original music composed by Golden Globe nominee Reinhold Heil (Cloud Atlas, Helix, The International, One Hour Photo). The soundtrack is now available to order on Varese’s website, where you can also listen to audio clips and check out the full album details. Haunt is directed by Mac Carter and stars Harriston Gilbertson, Liana Liberato, Jacki Weaver and Ione Skye. The movie follows a boy who gets involved with a mysterious neighbor when his family moves into a new home and unwittingly summons a demon. Varese Sarabande has announced a soundtrack album for the action thriller Wicked Blood. The album features the film’s original music composed by Elia Cmiral (Ronin, Battlefield Earth, Wrong Turn, Atlas Shrugged). The limited edition soundtrack is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also check out audio clips. Wicked Blood is written and directed by Mark Young and stars Abigail Breslin, Alexa PenaVega, Sean Bean, Lew Temple, Jake Busey and James Purefoy. The movie follows follows a girl trapped in a drug underworld who hatches a game of revenge against those who’ve wronged her. The thriller is now available on Blu-ray and DVD from Entertainment One.

Michael Giacchino to Score ‘Toy Story That Time Forgot’

Michael Giacchino announced at Comic-Con this past week that he is set to score the upcoming holiday special Toy Story That Time Forgot. The Pixar production is directed by Steve Purcell (Brave) and features the voice talent of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Kristen Schaal, Kevin McKidd, Wallace Shawn, Timothy Dalton, Don Rickles and Joan Cusack. The animated special is set during a post-Christmas play date and follows the gang as they find themselves in uncharted territory when the coolest set of action figures ever turn out to be dangerously delusional. Galyn Susman is producing the project. Giacchino has previously composed the music for last year’s Toy Story of Terror and has scored numerous projects for Pixar, including Up, Ratatouille, The Incredibles and Cars 2. ‘I Love You All’ from ‘Frank’ to Be Released

Silva Screen Records will release the song I Love You All from the indie comedy Frank. The track is performed by the fictional band The Soronprfbs featuring the character of Frank, played by Michael Fassbender. The song will be released as a single overseas on August 11, 2014. No word yet on the domestic release date. Frank is directed by Lenny Abrahamson and stars Michael Fassbender, Domhnall Gleeson, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Scoot McNairy. The movie centers on a wannabe musician who finds himself out of his depth when he joins an avant-garde pop band led by the enigmatic Frank – a musical genius who hides himself inside a large fake head. Bear McCreary to Score NBC’s ‘Constantine’

It was announced this evening at Comic-Con that Bear McCreary is scoring the upcoming NBC drama Constantine. The show is developed by Daniel Cerone (The Mentalist, Dexter) & David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, The Dark Knight Rises) and stars Matt Ryan, Harold Perrineau and Charles Halford. The drama is based on the comic book series Hellblazer from DC Comics and follows seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult John Constantine who is armed with a ferocious knowledge of the dark arts and a wickedly naughty wit. Cerone and Goyer are also producing the project for Bonanza Productions and Warner Bros. Television. McCreary has previously collaborated with Goyer on the Starz original series Da Vinci’s Demons. Neil Marshall (The Descent, Centurion) has directed the pilot episode. Constantine is set to premiere on October 24, 2014 and will air every Friday night on NBC. Read the rest of this entry »
‘Penny Dreadful’ Soundtrack Details

Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the first soundtrack album for the Showtime original series Penny Dreadful. The album features selections from the original score of the first season of the show composed, orchestrated and conducted by Abel Korzeniowski (A Single Man, Romeo & Juliet, W.E.). The soundtrack will be released on August 19, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Penny Dreadful is created by John Logan and stars Eva Green, Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton, Rory Kinnear, Reeve Carney, Harry Treadaway, Billie Piper and Danny Sapani. Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the action adventure Hercules directed by Brett Ratner and starring Dwayne Johnson, Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan and John Hurt. The film’s original music is composed by Fernando Velazquez (The Impossible, The Orphanage, Devil). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music digitally earlier this week. A CD release is set for next month. Also opening wide is the sci-fi thriller Lucy directed by Luc Besson and starring Scarlett Johansson, Morgan Freeman and Analeigh Tipton. Besson’s regular musical collaborator Eric Serra (The Professional, The Fifth Element) has composed the film’s original music. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. A different soundtrack, which also features the original song Sister Rust performed by Blur frontman Damon Albarn and tracks by The Crystal Method and Raury will be released overseas next month.
