Carter Burwell has been hired to score the upcoming crime thriller Legend. The film is written and directed by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential, Mystic River, 42, Payback) and stars Tom Hardy, Emily Browning, David Thewlis, Aneurin Barnard, Colin Morgan, Paul Anderson, Christopher Eccleston, Chazz Palminteri and Tara Fitzgerald. The movie follows the rise and fall of the Kray twins, notorious gangsters who dominated London crime in the sixties. Tim Bevan & Eric Fellner (Atonement, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Les Miserables, The Theory of Everything), Christopher Clark (Calvary, The Guard) and Quentin Curtis (London Boulevard) are producing the Working Title production. ‘Paddington’ to Feature Original Song by Pharell Williams & Gwen Stefani

The Weinstein Company/Dimension announced that Pharrell Williams and Gwen Stefani have co-written and recorded the original song Shine for the upcoming family adventure Paddington. The song is only featured in the U.S. version of the film, which opens nationwide on January 16, 2015 and will receive an awards-qualifying release later this year. Decca Records will release a soundtrack album featuring Nick Urata’s original score, as well as the songs from the film overseas. Check out our previous article for the full album details. Def Jam will release the official soundtrack album for the comedy Top Five. The album features the songs from and inspired by the movie by artists including N— In Paris by the film’s producers Jay Z & Kanye West. Also included are tracks by DMX, Public Enemy, LL Cool J, The Roots, Rakim, Salt-N-Pepa, Scarface & more. Questlove who co-scored the film with Ludwig Goransson serves as the project’s executive music producer. The soundtrack will be released on December 9, 2014. Cinema Musica has premiered a full stream of the soundtrack album for Ridley Scott’s biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings. The album features the film’s original music composed by Alberto Iglesias (The Constant Gardener, Volver, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Kite Runner). Also included are three tracks written by Harry Gregson-Williams (Kingdom of Heaven), as well as several cues by Federico Jusid (The Secret in Their Eyes). Cristal Records has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the 3D animated feature Asterix: The Land of the Gods (Astérix: Le domaine des dieux). The album features the film’s original music composed by Philippe Rombi (Swimming Pool, The New Girlfriend, Potiche, In the House). Also included is Johann Sebastian Bach’s Fugue No. 5 in D Minor as used in the movie. The soundtrack will be released in France on December 8, 2014. Expected to have the biggest opening of the year at the domestic box office is The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 directed by Francis Lawrence and starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Stanley Tucci, Elizabeth Banks, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Woody Harrelson. The film’s original score is composed by James Newton Howard who previously scored the first two installments in the series. Republic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from and inspired by the film, including the original song Yellow Flicker Beat by Lorde who curated the album. Opening in limited release is the drama Reach Me written and directed by John Herzfeld and starring Sylvester Stallone, Tom Berenger, Kevin Connolly, Kyra Sedgwick, Nelly, Kelsey Grammer, Cary Elwes, Terry Crews, Ryan Kwanten and Tom Sizemore. Tree Adams (Californication, Perception) has composed the film’s original score. No word on a score release. Simba Records has released an EP featuring three songs from the film by Frank Stallone. According to Hans-Zimmer.com, Hans Zimmer has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming sci-fi thriller Chappie. The film is directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium) and stars Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel, Ninja and Yo-Landi Visser, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Sigourney Weaver, as well as Sharlto Copley as the voice of the title character. The movie follows a robot named Chappie who is kidnapped by two criminals and becomes the adopted son of a very strange and dysfunctional family. The sci-fi drama follows a covert U.S. space mission launched in the 1960’s that sent hundreds of men, women and children on a century-long voyage aboard the starship Ascension to populate a new world.
