The 8-parter is directed by Roland Joffe (The Mission, The Killing Fields) and stars Bill Paxton, Brendan Fraser, Ray Liotta, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Olivier Martinez, Thomas Jane, Crispin Glover, Rhys Coiro, Jeremy Davies, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Christopher McDonald, Max Thieriot, Chad Michael Murray, Trevor Donovan, Robert Knepper, Jeff Fahey, Rob Morrow and Kris Kristofferson. The event series centers on Texas legend Sam Houston and follows his fight for Texas’ independence against Mexican general Santa Anna. Premiering tomorrow, March 9, is the A&E original series The Returned created by Carlton Cuse & Raelle Tucker based on the French series Les Revenants and starring Mark Pellegrino, Tandi Wright, India Ennenga, Sophie Lowe, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jeremy Sisto, Kevin Alejandro, Agnes Bruckner and Sandrine Holt. The show’s original music is composed by Jeff Russo (Fargo, CSI: Cyber, Power) and cellist Zoe Keating. The Returned is set in a small town that is turned upside down when several local people who have been long presumed dead suddenly reappear. The drama will air every Monday night on A&E. The film follows an expert art forger who is released from prison so that he can spend time with his dying son when he reteams with his father to carry out one last big job for the syndicate. Junkie XL to Score ‘Point Break’ Reboot

Junkie XL announced on Twitter that he will be scoring the upcoming reboot of Point Break. The film is directed by Ericson Core (Invincible) and stars Edgar Ramirez, Luke Bracey, Teresa Palmer and Ray Winstone. The action thriller is set in the world of extreme sports and follows an FBI agent infiltrating a ring of criminals. Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium, Law Abiding Citizen, Salt) has written the screenplay and is also producing the project with Alcon Entertainment’s Broderick Johnson & Andrew Kosove (The Blind Side, Prisoners, Dolphin Tale, Insomnia) and John Baldecchi (The Mexican, Conan the Barbarian) and Chris Taylor. Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the sci-fi thriller Chappie co-written and directed by Neill Blomkamp and starring Dev Patel, Hugh Jackman, Ninja and Yo-Landi Visser, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Sigourney Weaver and Sharlto Copley. The film’s original music is composed by Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, Gladiator, Inception). Varese Sarabande will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score and additional music by Steve Mazzaro & Andrew Kawczynski digitally next Tuesday and physically on March 17. Also opening wide is the comedy drama The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel directed by John Madden and starring Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel, Penelope Wilton, Celia Imrie, Ronald Pickup, Diana Hardcastle, David Strathairn and Richard Gere. Thomas Newman (The Shawshank Redemption, Finding Nemo, American Beauty) who previously scored the 2012 original movie has composed the film’s original music. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie. ‘The Gunman’ Soundtrack Details

Silva Screen Records will release a soundtrack album for the thriller The Gunman. The album features the film’s original music composed by Marco Beltrami (Scream, World War Z, 3:10 to Yuma, The Wolverine, The Hurt Locker). The soundtrack will be released digitally on March 24, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips. A physical version is set to come out in April. The Gunman is directed by Pierre Morrel (Taken), produced by Joel Silver and stars Sean Penn, Javier Bardem, Idris Elba, Ray Winstone, Mark Rylance and Jasmine Trinca. The movie is based on the novel The Prone Gunman by Jean-Patrick Manchette and follows a former special forces officer who is suffering from PTSD and must make a run across Europe to clear his name. Ludwig Göransson has been tapped to score the upcoming boxing drama Creed. The film is directed by Ryan Coogler and stars Sylvester Stallone, Michael B. Jordan, Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad and Anthony Bellew. Stallone stars in his iconic role as Rocky Balboa who acts a trainer for the grandson of Apollo Creed, portrayed by Carl Weathers in 1976’s original Rocky film. Coogler has also co-written the screenplay with Aaron Covington. Robert Chartoff (Rocky series, Ender’s Game, The Gambler) is producing the project with Irwin Winkler (Goodfellas, The Right Stuff, Life as a House), Charles and David Winkler & William Chartoff (The Mechanic), Stallone and Kevin King Templeton (The Expendables, Rambo). GSPO to Perform ‘A Spoonful of Sherman: A Symphonic Concert’

On Sunday, March 15, the Golden State Pops Orchestra (GSPO) will perform A Spoonful of Sherman: A Symphonic Concert at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. The event will feature performances of the songs by the sibling songwriting team of Richard and Robert Sherman who penned some of the most memorable melodies in the Walt Disney songbook, including It’s A Small World and music for Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Winnie the Pooh and The Jungle Book. A quintet of dynamic vocalists and a children’s chorus will be joining the GSPO and Richard Sherman himself will make a special appearance.
