hollywood-bowlThe Hollywood Bowl has announced this summer’s season schedule, which includes a number of film music concerts. On July 7 & 8, the Bowl will host its premiere performance of the live to projection concert for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek. The Los Angeles Philharmonic will be performing the entire score from J.J. Abrams’ 2009 film composed by Michael Giacchino (UpLostInside OutJurassic World) live-to-picture while the movie is shown in HD on the Bowl’s big screen. David Newman will be conducting the orchestra. sword-of-destinyShigeru Umebayashi has composed the music for the martial arts epic Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny. The composer of such films as House of Flying DaggersThe Grandmaster and In the Mood for Love collaborated with Lang Lang who performs piano solos on the score. The pianist was previously featured soloist on such movies as The Painted VeilMy Week with Marilyn and this year’s Kung Fu Panda 3. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny is directed by Yuen Wo-Ping (Tai Chi Master) and stars Michelle Yeoh who returns as Yu Shu-Lien, as well as Donnie Yen, Harry Shum, Jr., Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Jason Scott Lee, Eugenia Yuan and Roger Yuan. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Atticus Ross (The Social NetworkGone GirlThe Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Claudia Sarne Leopold Ross (The Book of EliBroken City) and Bobby Krlic. exposedLakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the dramatic thriller Exposed. The album features the film’s original music composed by Carlos José Alvarez (Deadline). Janet Dacal is performing the vocal solos on the score. The soundtrack will be released digitally on February 26, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Exposed is written and directed by Gee Malik Linton and stars Ana de Armas, Keanu Reeves, Christopher McDonald, Big Daddy Kane and Mira Sorvino. The film is directed by Gerard Barrett (Glassland) and stars Chloe Grace Moretz, Thomas Mann, Tyler Perry, Jenny Slate, Richard Armitage and Carrie-Anne Moss. The movie is based on Susannah Cahalan’s Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness and follows a rising journalist at the New York Post who falls victim to an inexplicable illness that has her hearing voices, hallucinating, battling bouts of paranoia and lashing out during violent episodes before a last-minute intervention gives her the chance to rebuild her life. vice-principalsJoey Stephens is reuniting with Jody Hill & Danny McBride and will compose the music for the upcoming HBO original series Vice Principals.  The show is created by Hill and McBride who also stars in the comedy alongside Walter Goggins, Kimberly Hébert Gregory, Georgia King, Busy Philipps, Shea Whigham and Sheaun McKinney. The series, which has been ordered for two seasons with 18 episodes, tells the story of a high school and the people who almost run it, the vice principals. McBride and Hill are also executive producing the project with  Stephanie Laing and David Gordon Green (Pineapple ExpressAll the Real GirlsGeorge Washington) who also directed the pilot episode. the-trustReza Safinia is composing the music for the upcoming dramatic comedy The Trust. The film is directed by Ben & Alex Brewer and stars Nicolas Cage, Elijah Wood, Jerry Lewis and Sky Ferreira. The movie revolves around two corrupt cops of the Las Vegas Police Department who discover a high bail receipt in connection to a drug bust and set in motion a plan to find the source of the money. homegrownPremiering tomorrow, February 8, is the HBO documentary Homegrown: The Counter-Terror Dilemma directed by Greg Barker based on the book United States of Jihad: Investigating America’s Homegrown Terrorists. The film’s original score is composed by electronic musician and percussionist Ricardo Donoso. Homegrown is produced by Barker, John Battsek & Julie Goldman and offers an insider’s account from the perspectives of those who helped construct America’s counter-terrorism machine, as well as those who are its targets. Ray Colcord (1949 – 2016)

ray-colcordRay Colcord has passed away at age 66 in Los Angeles, CA. The composer has been scoring numerous movies and TV shows over the last three decades. He received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination in 1991 for his main titles theme for NBC’s Singer & Sons. Colcord also composed the music for all seasons of Disney/ABC’s Dinosaurs and Boy Meets World and the CBS drama Promised Land. His other scoring credits include the classic Simpsons episode Dead Putting Society, episodes of The Facts of Life and Melissa & Joey and movies such as Heartwood, The King’s Guard and Wish Upon A Star. His last credit was the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World, which he has been scoring since 2014.
