Pharrell Williams announced today that he will be writing original songs for the upcoming drama Hidden Figures. The film is directed by Ted Melfi (St. Vincent) and stars Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monáe, Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons, Mahershala Ali, Aldis Hodge and Kevin Costner. The movie follows a trio of brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind the 1962 launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit. Melfi has also written the screenplay with Alison Schroeder and Lori Lakin Hutcherson. Williams is also producing the project with Melfi, Donna Gigliotti, Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping. Alex Heffes to Score History’s ‘Roots’

Alex Heffes has been hired to compose the music for the upcoming History event mini-series Roots. The 8-parter stars Forest Whitaker, Anna Paquin, Laurence Fishburne, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Anika Noni Rose, Chad L. Coleman, Erica Tazel, Derek Luke, Malachi Kirby and Regé-Jean. The drama is based on Alex Haley’s novel of the same title and chronicles the history of an African slave sold to America and his descendants. ‘Home Fires’ Soundtrack Announced

Sony Classical will release a soundtrack album for the British TV series Home Fires. The album features selections from the show’s original music composed by Samuel Sim (Awake, Dunkirk, The Reckoning, including the drama’s theme, which the composer arranged into a new four minute version, Siren (Theme from “Home Fires”). The soundtrack will be released on May 6, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Home Fires stars Samantha Bond, Francesca Annis, Ed Stoppard, Ruth Gemmell, Claire Rushbrook, Frances Grey, Clare Calbraith and Rachel Hurd-Wood. The composer duo of Elegant Too (aka Chris Maxwell and Phil Hernandez) is scoring the new Showtime original series Dice. Steve Marion aka Delicate Steve has written the main titles theme for the comedy created by Scot Armstrong (Old School, Road Trip, Starksy & Hutch) and starring Andrew Dice Clay in the title role, as well as Kevin Corrigan and Natasha Leggero. Lorraine Bracco, Adrien Brody and Michael Rapaport appear as guest stars. The show is based on the comedian’s real life as he moves his family to Las Vegas in hopes of making a comeback. Armstrong and Clay are also executive producing the Fox 21 Television Studios production with Sean & Bryan Furst (Daybreakers, The Cooler), Bruce Rubenstein, Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka (The Sitter). The movie is based on Philip Roth’s novel of the same title and follows a legendary high school athlete whose seemingly perfect life shatters when his daughter rebels by committing a deadly act of terrorism during the Vietnam War.
