Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the spy thriller Red Sparrow directed by Francis Lawrence and starring Jennifer Lawrence, Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Charlotte Rampling, Mary-Louise Parker and Jeremy Irons. The film’s original music is composed by James Newton Howard (The Hunger GamesThe Sixth SenseThe FugitiveSignsKing KongFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them). Also opening wide is the thriller Death Wish directed by Eli Roth and starring Bruce Willis, Vincent D’Onofrio, Elisabeth Shue, Camila Morrone, Dean Norris and Kimberly Elise. Ludwig Goransson (Black PantherCreedCommunityFruitvale StationEverything, Everything) has composed the film’s original music. The details of the soundtrack album for the supernatural thriller Ghost Stories have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Frank Ilfman (Big Bad Wolves, The Etruscan Smile) who recorded his score with the London Metropolitan Orchestra at Air Lyndhurst Studios. Also included are the songs Why by Anthony Newley and Monster Mash by Bobby ‘Boris’ Pickett. The soundtrack will be released digitally and physically on April 13, 2018 by Varese Sarabande and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Ghost Stories is directed by Jeremy Dyson & Andy Nyman and stars Martin Freeman, Andy Nyman, Paul Whitehouse and Alex Lawther. The movie follows an arch sceptic professor who embarks upon a terror filled quest when he stumbles across a long lost file containing details of three cases of inexplicable ‘hauntings’. Peter Nashel has been hired to score the upcoming comedy Book Club. The film marks the directorial debut of producer/screenwriter Bill Holderman (A Walk in the Woods, The Company You Keep) and stars Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, Mary Steenburgen, Craig T. Nelson, Andy Garcia and Don Johnson. The movie centers on four lifelong friends in their 60s who read Fifty Shades of Grey in their monthly book club and have their lives forever changed — even though this is not the type of book they typically read. Milan Records will release a soundtrack album for the French drama The Red Collar (Le collier rouge). The album features the film’s original music composed by Johan Hoogewijs (The Girl with Nine WigsBloedbroeders). The soundtrack will be released digitally worldwide on March 23, 2018 and physically in France the following week. Visit Amazon to pre-order the album and to check out the track list. Colosseum Records has released a soundtrack album for the German drama The Silent Revolution (Das schweigende Klassenzimmer). The album features the film’s original music composed by Christoph M. Kaiser & Julian Maas (The People vs. Fritz Bauer, Two Lives). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples and check out the track list. The Silent Revolution is directed Lars Kraume and stars Leonard Scheicher, Tom Gramenz, Lena Klenke, Jonas Dassler, Isaiah Michalski, Ronald Zehrfeld and Carina Wiese. The movie is based on the book by Dietrich Garstka and follows a group of sixth-grade pupils who decide to show their solidarity with the victims of the 1956 Hungarian uprising by staging a minute’s silence during lessons. Universal Music will release a new soundtrack album for the musical comedy Pitch Perfect 3. The album features the content of the original soundtrack album, as well as previously unreleased tracks performed by Anna Kendrick, Moisés Arias, Rebel Wilson & John Lithgow, as well as MIKA’s Elle me fit, Martin Solveig’s All Stars, Sigala & Ella Eyre’s Came Here For Love, and a Pitch Perfect Franchise Medley performed by Todrick Hall. The Special Edition soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, March 2 and will be available to download on Amazon. Diane Warren is reteaming with Amy Ziering & Kirby Dick (The Invisible War) and write an original song for the the filmmakers’ next, currently untitled documentary about the #MeToo movement and Hollywood. The movie will examine abuse and cover-ups within the entertainment industry and explore the lack of parity and diversity within the entertainment industry. Regina Scully, Dan Cogan, Alexandra Johnes, Geralyn Dreyfous and Jennifer Siebel Newsom are producing the project. Read the rest of this entry »

Clinton Shorter (District 9, Contraband, 2 Guns) is the new composer of the ABC drama Quantico. The composer is scoring the third season of the show created by Joshua Safran and starring Priyanka Chopra, Jake McLaughlin, Johanna Braddy, Russell Tovey, Alan Powell, Marlee Matlin and Blair Underwood. Michael Seitzman, Russell Lee Fine, Adam Armus, Robert Sertner, Mark Gordon & Nicholas Pepper are executive producing the ABC Studios production. Joel J. Richard (John Wick) has previously scored the first season of the series and Joseph Trapanese (Straight Outta Compton, Oblivion) composed the music for the second season. Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack album for the ITV original series Marcella.The album features selections of the show’s original music composed by Lorne Balfe (The LEGO Batman Movie, Pacific Rim Uprising, Genius, The Crown, Terminator Genisys, Home). Also included is the opening titles song Fall performed by The Bug feat. Inga Copeland. The soundtrack will be released digitally on March 9, 2018 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Marcella is created by Hans Rosenfeldt & Nicola Larder and stars Anna Friel, Nicholas Pinnock, Nina Sosanya, Ray Panthaki, Jamie Bamber and Jack Doolan. The series is set in contemporary London and follows a detective who returns to the Metropolitan Police’s Murder Squad after a 10-year long career break to start a family. Adam Wiltzie has been tapped to score the upcoming documentary Whitney. The film directed by Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland, Touching the Void, State of Play) and takes an in-depth look at the life and career of Whitney Houston who broke more records than any other female singer in the history of popular music, with over 200 million album sales worldwide, and inspired a generation of singers from Mariah Carey and Lady Gaga to Beyoncé. The movie, which marks the first documentary to be officially authorized by Houston’s estate, is produced by Simon Chinn (Man on Wire, Searching for Sugar Man), Jonathan Chinn (LA 92) and Lisa Erspamer.  Read the rest of this entry »
