Walt Disney Records has released the original song Impossible Child written for Disney’s live-action adaptation of the animated classic The Little Mermaid. The track, which was recorded for the movie, but ended up being cut from the final version of the film, is written by Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Enchanted) & Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, Encanto, Moana) and performed by Javier Bardem (who stars as Triton) and is now available to stream/download on all major digital music services, including Amazon. Original Song ‘Wild Uncharted Waters’ from ‘The Little Mermaid’ to Be Submitted for Awards Consideration
Disney has revealed that the studio will submit the original song Wild Uncharted Waters from the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid for awards consideration. The song written by the film’s composer Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Enchanted) and featuring lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights, Moana, Encanto) is performed on screen by Jonah Hauer-King. It is one of three original songs from the movie, the others being For the First Time performed by Halle Bailey and The Scuttlebutt performed by Awkwafina & Daveed Diggs. Walt Disney Records has released the official soundtrack album featuring all the songs from the film in two different versions.

Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid directed by Rob Marshall and starring Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Melissa McCarthy, Javier Bardem, Jacob Tremblay, Daveed Diggs and Awkwafina. Also opening wide is the action comedy The Machine directed by Peter Atencio and starring Bert Kreischer, Mark Hamill, Stephanie Kurtzuba, Jimmy Tatro, Jess Gabor and Iva Babić. Joseph Trapanese (The Witcher, Oblivion, Shadow and Bone, The Greatest Showman, Straight Outta Compton) has composed the film’s original music. The Deluxe Edition includes the content of the original album featuring the songs from the movie composed by Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Tangled, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Enchanted), lyrics by Howard Ashman and new lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, In the Heights, Encanto), as well as Menken’s full original score. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, May 26 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. TLM Music will release a soundtrack album for the new live-action movie adaptation of The Little Mermaid. The album features the the film’s original score composed and conducted by Jeremy Rubolino (Walt Before Mickey), as well the songs When This Story Ends performed by lead actress Poppy Drayton and This Heart of Mine performed by Sophia Pizzulo. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, August 17 and will be available to download on Amazon. The Little Mermaid is directed by Blake Harris & Chris Bouchard and stars Drayton, William Moseley, Armando Gutierrez, Loreto Peralta and Shirley MacLaine.
Alan Menken & Lin-Manuel Miranda Team Up for ‘The Little Mermaid’ Live Action Film Adaptation
Deadline is reporting that Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda will be teaming up to write the music for a live action feature adaptation of The Little Mermaid. The movie version is also said to feature songs from Disney’s classic animated movie, for which Menken won two Academy Awards for Best Original Song (with Howard Ashman) and Best Original Score. Marc Platt (Into the Woods, Wanted, Legally Blonde, Bridge of Spies) who is also on board of Disney’s upcoming Mary Poppins Returns will be producing the project. No director and cast members have been announced yet.

Walt Disney Records will release a new soundtrack album for the 1989 animated classic The Little Mermaid as part of the label’s Legacy Collection, which celebrate the anniversaries of a number of Disney movies. The album features the film’s original songs composed by Alan Menken (The Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Enchanted, Tangled) and lyrics by Howard Ashman, as well as Menken’s score, including previously unreleased music. Also included on a second disc are numerous demos of both songs and the score. The soundtrack will be released on November 24, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Little Mermaid directed by received two Academy Awards for Menken’s original score and the original song Under the Sea.
