Minding the Gap – Film Music Reporter

Weekly Film Music Roundup (August 17, 2018)

Three new movies are opening nationwide this week:

Already playing in theaters since this past Wednesday is the romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians directed by Jon M. Chu and starring Constance Wu, Gemma Chan, Awkwafina, Ken Jeong, Michelle Yeoh, Henry Golding and Chris Pang. The film’s original score is composed by Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, Fast & Furious series). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score (click here for the full album details), as well as a separate album featuring the songs from the movie (click here for more information).

Opening nationwide today is the action thriller Mile 22 directed by Peter Berg and starring Mark Wahlberg, Lauren Cohan, Iko Uwais, Ronda Rousey and John Malkovich. Jeff Russo (Fargo, Star Trek: Discovery, Legion, The Night Of) has composed the film’s original score. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. ‘Minding the Gap’ Soundtrack Released

Copticon Music has released a soundtrack album for the Hulu documentary Minding the Gap. The album features the film’s original music composed by Nathan Halpern (The Rider, Rich Hill, One Percent More Humid) and Chris Ruggiero. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips. Minding the Gap is directed by Bing Liu and follows the filmmaker as he searches for correlations between his skateboarder friends’ turbulent upbringings and the complexities of modern-day masculinity. The documentary produced by Steve James premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where it won the U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Filmmaking and is being released today in select theaters by Magnolia Pictures and on Hulu.
