Terence Blanchard has composed the original music for the upcoming comedy drama The Comedian. The film is directed by Taylor Hackford (Ray, An Officer and a Gentleman, The Devil’s Advocate, Dolores Claiborne) and stars Robert De Niro, Leslie Mann, Danny DeVito, Edie Falco, Veronica Ferres, Charles Grodin, Patti LuPone, Cloris Leachman, Lois Smith and Harvey Keitel. The movie revolves around a comic icon trying to reinvent himself with the audience only wanting to know him as the former TV character he once played. Art Linson (Fight Club, Heat), Jeff Ross, Richard LaGravenese (The Horse Whisperer, The Fisher King) and Lewis Friedman (BASEketball) have written the screenplay.

Terence Blanchard has been hired to score the upcoming Fox event series Shots Fired. The show is created by Gina Prince-Bythewood (Beyond the Lights, The Secret Life of Bees) & Reggie Rock Bythewood (Notorious, Biker Boyz) and stars Sanaa Lathan, Stephan James, Helen Hunt, Richard Dreyfuss, Stephen Moyer and Aisha Hinds. The drama examines the dangerous aftermath of racially charged shootings in a small town in North Carolina.

Terence Blanchard is currently recording his score for Spike Lee’s upcoming drama Chi-Raq. The movie stars Teyohonah Parris, Nick Cannon, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Hudson, Angela Bassett, La La Anthony, John Cusack, Samuel L. Jackson, D.B. Sweeney, Harry Lennix and Steve Harris. The film has been described as a modern day adaptation of the ancient Greek play Lysistrata by Aristophanes, set against the backdrop of gang violence in Chicago. Lee has also co-written the screenplay with Kevin Willmott.

Premiering tonight is the AMC original series Fear the Walking Dead starring Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Elizabeth Rodriguez and Mercedes Mason. Opening in most theaters is the found footage adventure Project Almanac directed by Dean Israelite, produced by Michael Bay and starring Jonny Weston, Sofia Black-D’Elia, Sam Lerner, Allen Evangelista, Allen Evangelista, Ginny Gardner and Ginny Gardner. The movie doesn’t feature an original score, but several songs by artists including Imagine Dragons who also appear in the film. No soundtrack album has been announced. Project Almanac follows a brilliant high school student and his friends who uncover blueprints for a mysterious device with limitless potential, inadvertently putting lives in danger. Relativity Music Group has released a soundtrack album for Mike Binder’s drama Black or White. The album features the film’s original music composed by Golden Globe-nominated Terence Blanchard (The 25th Hour, Inside Man, Malcolm X). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips. Black or White written and directed by Binder (The Upside of Anger, Reign Over Me) stars Kevin Costner, Octavia Spencer, Jillian Estell, Bill Burr, Jennifer Ehle, André Holland, Gillian Jacobs and Anthony Mackie. The movie centers on an attorney trying to raise his biracial granddaughter after the deaths of his wife and daughter and his battle with the child’s paternal grandmother.

Terence Blanchard is currently recording his score for the upcoming drama Black and White. The film is written and directed by Mike Binder and stars Kevin Costner, Octavia Spencer, Jennifer Ehle, Gillian Jacobs, Andre Holland, Bill Burr, Mpho Koaho and Jillian Estell. The movie follows a grieving widower who is fighting for custody of his bi-racial granddaughter with the girl’s paternal grandmother and his drug addict son-in-law, who he blames for his own daughter’s death. Binder is also producing the project through his Sunlight Productions company, alongside Costner for Treehouse Film and Todd Lewis.
Terence Blanchard to Score ‘Little Rootie Tootie’
Terence Blanchard has been tapped to score the upcoming drama Little Rootie Tootie. The film is written and directed by Dan Algrant (Naked in New York, Greetings From Tim Buckley) and is set to star Christopher Walken and Lenny Kravitz. The movie follows a veteran jazz pianist who is mourning the death of his wife. His son returns home with his own wife, disrupting the couple’s careers as musicians in Europe to deal with his father as his behavior becomes manic and destructive. Algrant is producing the project with Fred Zollo (Mississippi Burning, The Paper) for A to Z Productions, along with River Bend Pictures’ Stan Erdreich and Paul Condoleon for Dalifey Ltd.
Terence Blanchard to Score ‘Black Nativity’
Terence Blanchard has been tapped to score the upcoming musical drama Black Nativity. The film is directed by Kasi Lemmons and stars Forest Whitaker, Angela Bassett, Jennifer Hudson, Tyrese Gibson, Jacob Latimore, Nas, Mary J. Blige and Luke James. The movie is based on the gospel musical by Langston Hughes that was first performed on Broadway in 1961 and follows a street-wise teen from Baltimore who is sent to New York City by his single mother to spend the Christmas holiday with his estranged relatives. Lemmons has adapted the material for the screen and Bill Horberg (The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Kite Runner) is producing the project with Celine Rattray (The Kids Are All Right, Bernie), Galt Niederhoffer (The Romantics, Robot & Frank) and Daniela Taplin Lundberg (The Kids Are All Right). It has previously been reported that Raphael Saadiq will serve as the film’s music producer.
