Roger Neill is scoring the upcoming family drama A Kid Like Jake. The film is directed by Silas Howard and stars Jim Parsons, Claire Danes, Ocatavia Spencer, Ann Dowd, Michaela Watkins and Priyanka Chopra. The movie follows a Brooklyn couple trying to raise their 4-year-old-son who prefers to dress up as a princess instead of G.I. Joe. Daniel Pearle wrote the screenplay based on his 2013 stage play. Parsons is also producing the project with Todd Spiewak (Young Sheldon), Eric Norsoph, Paul Bernon (Drinking Buddies, Adult Beginners) and Rachel Song.

Roger Neill to Score ‘Valley Girl’ Musical Remake & Netflix’s ‘Like Father”
Roger Neill has been tapped to score the upcoming movie musical Valley Girl. The film is directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg and stars Jessica Rothe, Josh Whitehouse, Mae Whitman, Chloe Bennet, Peyton List, Logan Paul, Jessie Ennis and Ashleigh Murray. The movie is based on Martha Coolidge’s 1983 romantic comedy of the same title and follows a Fernando Valley girl whose world and values are rocked when she falls hard for a rock musician. Amy Talkington wrote the screenplay with revisions by Marti Noxon (UnREAL, Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

No new movies are opening nationwide this week.
Playing in limited release since this past Sunday before expanding nationwide on January 6 is the drama Hidden Figures directed by Theodore Melfi and starring Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monáe, Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons, Mahershala Ali, Aldis Hodge, Glen Powell and Kevin Costner. The film’s original music is composed by Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, Gladiator), Pharrell Williams and Benjamin Wallfisch (Lights Out). Also playing in select cities before expanding nationwide on January 13 is the crime drama Live by Night directed by Ben Affleck who also stars in the movie, alongside Sienna Miller, Elle Fanning, Chris Messina, Zoe Saldana and Chris Cooper. The film’s original music is composed by Harry Gregson-Williams (The Martian, The Chronicles of Narnia, Shrek) who previously scored Affleck’s The Town and Gone Baby Gone. ’20th Century Women’ Soundtrack Released
Rhino Records has released a soundtrack album for the comedy drama 20th Century Women. The album features the songs from the movie by David Bowie, Talking Heads, The Raincoats, Fred Astaire, Benny Goodman, Rudy Vallee, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Devo, Louis Armstrong, The Buzzcocks & more. Also included are selections from the film’s original score composed by Roger Neill (Beginners, Mozart in the Jungle, Don’t Think Twice, King of the Hill). The soundtrack is now available to download on iTunes, where you can also listen to audio samples. A CD version will be released on January 13, 2017 and will be available for pre-order on Amazon within the next few days and a vinyl version will be coming out on February 3 and can be pre-ordered here. 20th Century Women is written and directed by Mike Mills and stars Annette Bening, Elle Fanning, Greta Gerwig, Billy Crudup and Lucas Jake Zumann.
‘Don’t Think Twice’ Soundtrack Announced
Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the hit indie comedy Don’t Think Twice. The album features the film’s original score composed by Roger Neill (Mozart in the Jungle, Beginners, King of the Hill, 20th Century Women). Also included are songs by Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin and ELEL. The soundtrack will be available digitally on November 11, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. Don’t Think Twice is written and directed by Mike Birbiglia and stars himself, Keegan-Michael Key, Gillian Jacobs, Kate Micucci, Chris Gethard and Tami Sagher. The movie revolves around an improv group that loses its lease on its home theater at the same time that one of its cast members lands a TV comedy sketch show.
‘Mozart in the Jungle’ Soundtrack Announced
Amazon Content Services will release a soundtrack album for the Amazon original series Mozart in the Jungle. The album features the show’s main title theme Lisztomania arranged by the show’s composer Roger Neill (Beginners, Don’t Think Twice), as well as a selection of the classical pieces used in the series’ first two seasons by Rachmaninoff, Berlioz, Mozart, Mendelssohn & more. The soundtrack will be released digitally on August 12, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. Mozart in the Jungle is created by Roman Coppola, Jason Schwartzman & Alex Timbers and stars Gael García Bernal, Lola Kirke Saffron Burrows, Hannah Dunne, Malcolm McDowell and Peters. The Golden Globe-winning show will return for a third season later this year or in 2017.

Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the sci-fi adventure sequel Star Trek Beyond directed by Justin Lin and starring Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Giacchino (Up, Jurassic World, The Incredibles, Inside Out, Lost) who previously scored J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness. Roger Neill to Score Mike Mills’ ’20th Century Women’
Roger Neill is reuniting with director Mike Mills on the upcoming drama 20th Century Women. The film is written and directed by Mills and stars Annette Bening, Greta Gerwig, Elle Fanning and Billy Crudup. The movie is set in 1979 Santa Barbara and follows a mother who is trying her best to raise her teenage son while looking for answers from two other remarkable women in her life. Megan Ellison (Her, American Hustle, Foxcatcher) is producing the project for her Annapurna Pictures company, alongside Anne Carey (Mr. Holmes, Adventureland, The American) for Archer Gray and Youree Henley (The Bling Ring).

While no new TV shows are premiering this week, Amazon has made a number of new pilots available this past Thursday. Viewers will get to decide whether they want a full season by voting for the shows on the website.
One of Amazon’s drama pilots is the mystery drama The After created by Chris Carter (The X-Files, Millennium) and starring Sharon Lawrence, Jamie Kennedy, Aldis Hodge, Andrew Howard, Adrian Pasdar, Arielle Kebbel, Jaina Lee Ortiz and Louise Monot. Focus Features has published the complete scores of its major awards contenders this season. Among the titles is Gus Van Sant’s drama Promised Land, which features music composed by Danny Elfman. The film starring Matt Damon, John Krasinski, Rosemarie DeWitt, Hal Holbrook, Scoot McNairy, Titus Welliver and Frances McDormand also features an original song, Snake Eyes, written by Kenneth A. Pattengale and Joseph Edward Ryan, which is being pushed for awards consideration. No soundtrack release has been announced yet.
