Rapper/singer and music producer Terrace Martin & jazz pianist/composer/record producer Robert Glasper (Miles Ahead, The Photograph) are scoring the new Peacock original series Bel-Air. The show based on the classic sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (starring Will Smith) and inspired by Morgan Cooper’s viral trailer stars Jabari Banks, Adrian Holmes, Cassandra Freeman, Olly Sholotan, Coco Jones, Akira Akbar, Jimmy Akingbola, Jordan L. Jones and Simone Joy Jones. The one-hour drama is set in modern day America and chronicles Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air.

‘Mr. Soul!’ Soundtrack Album Released
Hillman Grand Records & Def Jam Recordings have released a soundtrack album for the documentary Mr. Soul! The album features the original end title song Show Me Your Soul performed by Lalah Hathaway & the film’s composer Robert Glasper (Miles Ahead, The Photograph) and co-written by Hathaway, Glasper, Muhammad Ayers and director Melissa Haizlip. The track was shortlisted in the Original Song category at this year’s Academy Awards. Also included are other songs from and inspired by the movie by artists such as Donny Hathway, Kool and the Gang, The Delfonics, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Patti Labelle and the Bluebelle & others. The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on Amazon and most other major digital music stores.
Soundtrack Album for Starz’s ‘Run the World’ to Be Released
Loma Vista Recordings will release a soundtrack album for the Starz original series Run the World. The album features selections of the original music from the show’s first season composed by jazz pianist/record producer Robert Glasper (The Photograph, Miles Ahead) & Derrick Hodge. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, June 1 and will be available to stream/download here. Run the World is created by Leigh Davenport and stars Bresha Webb, Amber Stevens West, Corbin Reid, Andrea Bordeaux, Tonya Pinkins, Erika Alexander, Stephen Bishop, Tosin Morohunfola, Jay Walker and Nick Sagar. The comedy drama centers on a group of Black women in their 30s who work, live and play in Harlem as they strive for world domination.

Premiering in the U.S. tonight is the British mini-series Death and Nightingales adapted and directed by Allan Cubitt and starring Matthew Rhys, Jamie Dornan and Ann Skelly. The show’s original music is composed by David Holmes (Ocean’s 11, Out of Sight, Haywire, Killing Eve, Logan Lucky, Ordinary Love, Analyze That) and Gerry Diver (Pixie). The 3-part drama, which tells a story of love, betrayal and revenge set in the haunting countryside of Northern Ireland in 1885, premiered in the UK in 2018 on BBC Two (and in Ireland on RTÉ One) and is making its U.S. debut on Starz.

Four new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the live-action adventure comedy Sonic the Hedgehog directed by Jeff Fowler and starring James Marsden, Ben Schwartz, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Neal McDonough, Adam Pally and Jim Carrey. The film’s original music is composed by Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL) (Mad Max: Fury Road, Deadpool, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Alita: Battle Angel, Terminator: Dark Fate). Paramount Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally today. La-La Land Records will release a CD version soon. ‘The Photograph’ Soundtrack Details
Back Lot Music will release the official soundtrack album for the romantic drama The Photograph. The album features the film’s original score written by jazz pianist/record producer and composer Robert Glasper (Miles Ahead). Also included is Lucky Daye’s original song Fade Away (already available as a digital single), as well as H.E.R.’s Comfortable and Erykah Badu’s & James Poyser’s cover of Squeeze’s Tempted. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, February 7 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon. Jazz pianist/record producer and composer Robert Glasper has recently scored the upcoming romantic drama The Photograph. The film is written and directed by Stella Meghie (Everything, Everything, Jean of the Joneses) and stars Issa Rae, LaKeith Stanfield, Chanté Adams, Y’lan Noel, Rob Morgan, Lil Rel Howery and Courtney B. Vance. The movie follow the estranged daughter of a famed photographer who finds a photograph tucked away in a safe-deposit box that is found after her mother’s death and finds herself on a journey delving into her mother’s early life.
Soundtrack Album for HBO Documentary ‘The Apollo’ Released
Universal Music has released a soundtrack album for the HBO documentary The Apollo. The album features the original song Don’t Turn Back Now by Robert Glasper (Miles Ahead) with vocals by Ledisi, as well as selections from Glasper’s original score from the movie. Also included are classic recordings by artists (such as Count Basie, James Brown, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye and Billie Holiday) who have graced the Apollo’s stage. The soundtrack is now available to download/stream on Amazon Music. A CD version is set to come out on December 20 and will be available for pre-order here and a vinyl edition is coming out on the same date (click here to order).
Common, Robert Glasper & Karriem Riggins Win Emmy Award for ‘Letter to the Free’ from ’13th’
Common, Robert Glasper and Karriem Riggins have received the Emmy Award for the original song Letter to the Free from Ava DuVernay’s Netflix documentary 13th in the Music & Lyrics category at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Common & Glasper accepted their first Emmy Award in person at the ceremony at the Microsoft Theatre LA LIVE in Downtown Los Angeles. The song was previously nominated for the Critics Choice Awards earlier this year. In the Outstanding Music Direction category, Rickey Minor was honored for his work on the ABC special Taking The Stage: African American Music and Stories That Changed America.
