Varese Sarabande has announced a deluxe edition for J.J. Abrams’ 2013 sci-fi action adventure Star Trek Into Darkness as the label’s latest release in the CD Club series. The 2-CD set is limited to 6000 copies and features the film’s expanded score composed by Michael Giacchino (Up, The Incredibles, Lost, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Ratatouille). Varese has previously released the regular soundtrack album when the film opened in theaters last summer and also released a deluxe edition of Giacchino’s’ first Star Trek score. Star Trek Into Darkness starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Benedict Cumberbatch and Peter Weller is now available on Blu-ray and DVD.

Michael Giacchino to Score ‘Toy Story That Time Forgot’
Michael Giacchino announced at Comic-Con this past week that he is set to score the upcoming holiday special Toy Story That Time Forgot. The Pixar production is directed by Steve Purcell (Brave) and features the voice talent of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Kristen Schaal, Kevin McKidd, Wallace Shawn, Timothy Dalton, Don Rickles and Joan Cusack. The animated special is set during a post-Christmas play date and follows the gang as they find themselves in uncharted territory when the coolest set of action figures ever turn out to be dangerously delusional. Galyn Susman is producing the project. Giacchino has previously composed the music for last year’s Toy Story of Terror and has scored numerous projects for Pixar, including Up, Ratatouille, The Incredibles and Cars 2.

Opening in limited release is the indie drama Boyhood written and directed by Richard Linklater and starring Ellar Coltrane, Patricia Arquette, Lorelei Linklater and Ethan Hawke. The film doesn’t feature an original score. Nonesuch Records has released a soundtrack album including the songs featured in the movie by artists such as Coldplay, Vampire Weekend, Bob Dylan, Arcade Fire, Wilco, The Black Keys, Gnarls Barkley, The Flaming Hips, Jeff Tweedy, The Hives, Cat Power and Paul McCartney & Wings. The album features the film’s original music written by Academy Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino (Up, Star Trek, Lost, Ratatouille, The Incredibles). The soundtrack will be released on July 8, 2014 by Sony Masterworks and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check back on this page for audio clips. Michael Giacchino to Score Pixar’s ‘Inside Out’
Michael Giacchino confirmed during the pre-concert conversation at the world premiere live-to-projection concert of Star Trek Into Darkness at the KKL Concert Hall in Lucerne, Switzerland this weekend that he will be scoring Pixar’s upcoming animated feature Inside Out. The film is directed by Pete Doctor and features the voice talent of Amy Poehler, Lewis Black, Bill Hader, Mindy Kaling and Phyllis Smith. The movie will be told from the perspective of the emotions inside the mind of an especially imaginative young girl. Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3, Little Miss Sunshine) has written the screenplay. Jonas Rivera (Up) is producing the project. Giacchino has previously collaborated with Docter on the 2009 film Up, for which he received his first Academy Award.
Michael Giacchino to Score ‘Jurassic World’
Michael Giacchino has signed on to score the upcoming action adventure Jurassic World. The film is directed by Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) and stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jake Johnson, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Omar Sy, Vincent D’Onofrio, Judy Greer and BD Wong. No plot details have been revealed yet, but the movie is set to take place 22 years after the events of Jurassic Park. Trevorrow has also co-written the screenplay with Derek Connolly. Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley are producing the project and Steven Spielberg serves as an executive producer. The composer follows John Williams who scored Steven Spielberg’s first two movies in the series, as well as Don Davis who scored Jurassic Park III.
Danny Elfman to Attend ‘Alice in Wonderland’ World Premiere Live to Projection Concert
The 21st Century Symphony Orchestra has announced that Danny Elfman will be attending a series of concerts this March at the KKL Luzern Concert Hall in Lucerne, Switzerland. On March 21, 2014, the concert Danny Elfman’s Music from the Films of Tim Burton will make its premiere in Switzerland. The event, which features the composer’s music for the director’s films such as Batman, Nightmare Before Christmas, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Beetlejuice, Sleepy Hollow and Big Fish world premiered last year at London’s Royal Albert Hall and will also be performed in other cities this spring and summer, including Prague, Mexico City, Seattle and San Diego. On March 22 & 23, the KKL will host the world premiere performance of Elfman‘s original score for Burton’s Alice in Wonderland performed live to projection.
Michael Giacchino Scoring ‘Ratatouille’ Ride for Disneyland Paris
Michael Giacchino revealed on Twitter today the he is currently recording the music for a new Ratatouille theme park attraction for Disneyland Paris based on the Oscar-winning movie from Pixar. The composer has previously scored the 2007 animated feature, for which he received his first Academy Award nomination. The attractions is reportedly a trackless ride vehicles with 3-D projections and special effects and riders riders will encounter audio-animatronic figures, special effects and 3-D imagery projected on 30-foot-wide domed screens. Giacchino’s music is being recorded at Capitol Records Studios in Los Angeles. The Ratatouille ride will be opening this summer in the Toon Studio area at Disneyland Paris.

Premiering on Thursday, October 17, on ABC is the Halloween special Toy Story of Terror directed by Angus MacLane and featuring the voices of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn, Timothy Dalton, Kristen Schaal and Carl Weathers. Michael Giacchino (Up, Ratatouille, The Incredibles) has composed the music for the short. Walt Disney Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score on Tuesday, October 15.
