Back Lot Music will release the official soundtrack album for Angelina Jolie’s drama By the Sea. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Gabriel Yared (The English Patient, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Cold Mountain, 1408) who previously scored Jolie’s In the Land of Blood and Honey. Also included are the songs featured in the movie by artists including Serge Gainsbourg, Jacques Dutronc, Jane Birkin, Chantal Goya & more. The soundtrack will be released on November 13, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. By the Sea is written and directed by Jolie who also stars in the film alongside Brad Pitt, Mélanie Laurent, Melvil Poupaud, Niels Arestrup and Richard Bohringer.

Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the biographical drama Straight Outta Compton directed by F. Gary Gray and starring O’Shea Jackson Jr. as Ice Cube, Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre, Jason Mitchell as Eazy-E, Aldis Hodge as MC Ren, Neil Brown, Jr. as DJ Yella and Paul Giamatti as N.W.A.’s manager Jerry Heller. The film’s original score is composed by Joseph Trapanese (Insurgent, Oblivion, Earth to Echo). Dr. Dre has released his first record in 16 years inspired by the movie last Friday. Also opening wide is the film adaptation of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Debicki, Jared Harris and Hugh Grant. Daniel Pemberton (Steve Jobs, The Counselor) has composed the film’s original music. Weekly Film Music Roundup (August 7, 2015)
Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the superhero movie Fantastic Four directed by Josh Trank and starring Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Toby Kebbell. The film’s original music is composed by Marco Beltrami (Scream, The Wolverine, World War Z, 3:10 to Yuma) and Philip Glass (The Hours, Notes on a Scandal, Candyman). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ music digitally last week and a CD version is set to come out on August 14. Also opening wide is the thriller The Gift directed by Joel Edgerton who also stars in the film alongside Rebecca Hall and Jason Bateman. ‘Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet’ Soundtrack Released
Warner Bros. Records has released a soundtrack album for the animated feature Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Gabriel Yared (The English Patient, The Talented Mr. Ripley, 1408, Cold Mountain). Cellist Yo-Yo Ma is featured as a soloist. Also included are the original songs Hypnosis and On Children by Damien Rice, as well as On Love by Lisa Hannigan & Glen Hansard. The soundtrack is now available digitally on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet is directed by Roger Allers (The Lion King) and features the voices of Liam Neeson, Salma Hayek, John Krasinski, Frank Langella, Alfred Molina, John Rhys-Davies and Quvenzhané Wallis.
Gabriel Yared Scoring ‘Chocolat’
Gabriel Yared is scoring the upcoming French biographical period drama Chocolat. The film is directed by actor Roschdy Zem and stars Omar Sy, James Thierree and Clothilde Hesme. The movie tells the life story of Padilla, aka Chocolat, who became the first black artist to appear on a French stage in the 19th century and centers around his lifelong friendship with a white artist nicknamed Footit. Eric and Nicolas Altmayer (Saint Laurent, In the House, The New Girlfriend) are producing the Mandarin Cinema production.
Gabriel Yared to Score Angelina Jolie’s ‘By the Sea’
Gabriel Yared has been hired to score the upcoming romantic drama By the Sea. The film marks the third directorial feature of Angelina Jolie who also stars in the movie alongside Brad Pitt, Mélanie Laurent, Niels Arestrup, Melvil Poupaud and Richard Bohringer. The drama follows an American writer who arrives with his wife a tranquil and picturesque seaside resort in 1970s France with their marriage in apparent crisis. Jolie also wrote the screenplay and is producing the project with Pitt. Chris Brigham, Holly Goline and Michael Vieira are executive producing.
‘Belle du Seigneur’ Soundtrack Announced
Caldera Records has announced a soundtrack album for the romantic drama Belle du Seigneur. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Gabriel Yared (The English Patient, The Talented Mr. Ripley, 1408, Cold Mountain). Belle du Seigneur is directed by Glenio Bonder and stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Natalie Vodianova and Marianne Faithfull. The movie is based on the novel by Albert Cohen and follows a Jewish diplomat who falls for, and starts an affair with, a married Swiss woman as World War Two kicks off.
‘A Promise’ Soundtrack Details
Playtone will release a soundtrack album for the romantic drama A Promise. The album features the film’s original music written by Academy Award-winning composer Gabriel Yared (The English Patient, Cold Mountain, The Talented Mr. Ripley). The soundtrack will be released digitally on April 6, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips are embedded after the jump. A Promise is directed by Patrice Leconte and stars Alan Rickman, Rebecca Hall and Richard Madden. The movie is based on Stefan Zweig’s novella Journey into the Past and centers on an older, wealthy man’s wife who falls hopelessly in love with her husband’s teacher just before World War I.
Gabriel Yared Scoring ‘The Prophet’
Gabriel Yared is composing the score for the upcoming animated feature The Prophet. The film is written and directed by Roger Allers (The Lion King, Open Season) and features the voice talent of Liam Neeson, Salma Hayek, John Krasinski, Frank Langella, Alfred Molina and Quvenzhané Wallis. The movie is based on the iconic book of the same title by Lebanese poet Kahlil Gibran that is one of the biggest sellers in history. Each chapter of the book is directed by a different award-winning director, including Marjane Satrapi (Persepolis), Tomm Moore (The Secret of Kells), Nina Paley (Sita Sings The Blues) and Paul & Gaetan Brizzi (Fantasia 2000).
‘Tom at the Farm’ Soundtrack Details
A soundtrack album will be released for Xavier Dolan’s drama Tom at the Farm (Tom à la ferme). The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Gabriel Yared (The English Patient, The Talented Mr. Ripley, 1408). The soundtrack will be released on March 24, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips are embedded after the jump. Tom at the Farm is co-written and directed by Dolan who also stars in the film alongside Pierre-Yves Cardinal, Lise Roy, Evelyne Brochu, Manuel Tadros, Jacques Lavallee, Anne Caron and Olivier Morin. The French drama about a a gay man who attends his lover’s funeral only to learn that none of his friends and family knew of the deceased’s sexuality nor their relationship premiered at last year’s Venice and Toronto Film Festival and will be released in France next month.
