Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the action thriller 3 Days to Kill directed by McG and starring Kevin Costner, Hailee Steinfeld, Amber Heard and Connie Nielsen. Guillaume Roussel (Crossing Lines) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. 3 Days to Kill follows a dangerous international spy who is determined to give up his high-stakes life to finally build a closer relationship with his estranged wife and daughter, whom he’s previously kept at arm’s length to keep out of danger. Also opening wide is the historical action epic Pompeii directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and starring Kit Harington, Carrie-Anne Moss, Emily Browning, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jared Harris, Paz Vega and Kiefer Sutherland. Clinton Shorter (District 9, 2 Guns, Contraband) has composed the film’s original score. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music digitally earlier this week. A soundtrack album has been announced for the romantic drama In Secret. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Gabriel Yared (The English Patient, The Talented Mr. Ripley). The soundtrack will be released digitally on February 21 and is now available for pre-order on 
Expected to top the weekend box office is the dramatic thriller Prisoners directed by Denis Villeneuve and starring Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Maria Bello, Terrance Howard, Viola Davis, Melissa Leo and Paul Dano. Also opening wide is the dance drama Battle of the Year directed by Benson Lee and starring Josh Holloway, Laz Alonso, Josh Peck, Caity Lotz and Chris Brown. The film’s original score is composed by Christopher Lennertz (Horrible Bosses, Revolution, Identity Thief). Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album for the film earlier this week. The album features a suite from the composer’s score, as well as the songs featured in the movie by such artists as The Roots, Chubb Rock, Kool Kojak, Speedometer, Digital Underground and PC’s Ltd. Gabriel Yared has composed the music for the upcoming romantic drama A Promise. The film is directed by Patrice Leconte (The Widow of Saint-Pierre, Monsieur Hire) and stars Alan Rickman, Rebecca Hall and Richard Madden. The movie based on Stefan Zweig’s novella Journey into the Past is set in Germany just before WWI and centers on an older, wealthy man who falls hopelessly in love with her husband’s teacher. When the war breaks out and they are separated, they pledge their devotion to one another. The drama marks the English language feature debut of Leconte who has also co-written the screenplay with Jerome Tonnerre (Renoir, Intimate Strangers). Marc Missonnier & Olivier Delbosc (The Next Three Days, Swimming Pool, Enter the Void) are producing the project for Fidelite Films.
Music Box Records has announced a soundtrack album featuring two previously unreleased scores written by Academy Award-nominated composer Alan Silvestri (Forrest Gump, Back to the Future, The Avengers). The album features the world premiere release of the score for the 1994 comedy Clean Slate directed by Mick Jackson (The Bodyguard) and starring Dana Carvey, Valeria Golino, Michael Gambon, James Earl Jones, Bryan Cranston, and Kevin Pollak. Also included is the first-ever official release of the score for the 1995 comedy The Perez Family directed by Mira Nair and starring Marisa Tomei, Alfred Molina and Anjelica Huston.
