A number of new TV shows are premiering this week:

Premiering this Monday, September 17 on NBC is the new drama Revolution created by Eric Kripke, produced by J.J. Abrams and starring Billy Burke, Tracy Spiridako, Elizabeth Mitchell, Anna Lise Phillips, Zak Orth and Giancarlo Esposito. Christopher Lennertz (Horrible Bosses, Hop) who is also scoring the Kripke-created CW series Supernatural is writing the original music for the sci-fi show, which follows follows a group of people struggling to survive and reunite with loved ones in a world where all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist. Jon Favreau (Iron Man) has directed the pilot episode, which is now available to download for free on iTunes.

‘A Symphony of Hope: The Haiti Project’ Live Concert Premiere Announced

On August 3, 2012, A Symphony of Hope: The Haiti Project will have its world premiere live concert as part of the Grand Performances Music, Movement and Meaning program in downtown Los Angeles. The music will be performed by the Hollywood Studio Symphony Orchestra and Choir and conducted by Lukas Richman. The event also features special guest performances by composer Mark Isham and Lucy Schwartz. In addition to the free concert, there will also be a Fundraising Dinner and Silent Auction before the concert. All funds raised by this event will support people in Haiti as they rebuild their communities. To register for the concert and pre-show gala and for more detailed sponsorship information, click here. A Symphony of Hope: The Haiti Project was originally designed to help the people of Haiti in their desperate time of need.

Christopher Lennertz to Score ‘Thanks for Sharing’

Christopher Lennertz has taken over scoring duties on the indie comedy drama Thanks for Sharing. The film marks the directorial debut of Stuart Blumberg who has received an Academy Award nomination for co-writing the screenplay for 2010’s The Kids Are All Right. Mark Ruffalo, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim Robbins, Joely Richardson, Patrick Fugit, Josh Gad and Alecia Moore are starring in the movie, which revolves around a group of unlikely friends in a 12-step program for recovering sex addicts in New York City. Blumberg shares writing credit with actor Matt Winston. The dramedy is produced by Olympus Pictures’ Leslie Urdang, Dean Vanech & Miranda de Pencier (Beginners) who previously worked with Lennertz on the 2009 drama Adam starring Hugh Dancy and Rose Byrne.

‘The Character of Music’ Panel at Comic-Con 2012

A number of film composers will be taking part at this year’s The Character of Music panel at Comic-Con. Among the participants are Blake Neely and Mark Guggenheim, executive producer and show-runner of the upcoming CW show Arrow. Neely has already recorded music for the pilot a few months ago with a 80-piece orchestra at Warner Bros. Eastwood Scoring Stage. Also taking part in the panel is Christopher Lennertz who has already written music for the pilot of the NBC drama Revolution created by Eric Kripke and produced by J.J. Abrams and is also using a live orchestra for the score to the series. The panelists also include composer Joseph Trapanese and executive producer Charlie Bean who will be talking about their work on the animated series Tron: Uprising.

The only movie opening wide this weekend is the supernatural comedy Dark Shadows starring Johnny Depp, Chloe Moretz, Michelle Pfeiffer, Bella Heathcoate and Eva Green. The film marks the fourteenth collaboration between the director and composer Danny Elfman. WaterTower Music has released two soundtrack albums, including the original score by the composer. The other soundtrack features the film’s classic songs by artists The Moody Blues, Iggy Pop, Donovan, The Carpenters, Barry White, T.Rex and Alice Cooper. Several interviews with Elfman have been published online over the last week. Check out a video feature on Reelz about his collaboration with Burton, a behind-the-scenes interview on YouTube, an audio interview on East Village Radio’s Morricone Youth show as well an video interview from the film’s red carpet premiere in Hollywood this past Monday. Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the romantic drama The Lucky One based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, directed by Scott Hicks (Shine) and starring Zac Efron, Taylor Schilling and Blythe Danner. The film’s original score is written by Mark Isham. No score album has been announced yet, but WaterTower Music hss released a soundtrack album featuring the movie’s songs by artists including Jules Larson, Correatown, Joshua Radin, Early Winters, Voxhaul Broadcast, A Fine Frenzy and Mayfield. Also opening wide is the romantic comedy Think Like a Man directed by Tim Story and starring Kevin Hart, Michael Ealy, Taraji P. Henson, Meagan Good, Gabrielle Union, Jerry Ferrara, Regina Hall, Terrence J. and Romany Malco. Christopher Lennertz has composed the film’s score. A soundtrack album featuring the comedy’s title song performed by Jennifer Hudson & Ne-Yo feat. Rick Ross, as well as other songs from and inspired by the film by artists including John Legend feat. ‘Girl in Progress’ Soundtrack & Score Album Announced

Artists’ Addiction Records will be releasing both the score and a soundtrack album for the upcoming comedy drama Girl in Progress. The score album features the original music from the film composed by Christopher Lennertz (Horrible Bosses, Hop). The album will be released digitally on May 8, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips from the score can be checked out below. Also scheduled to be released on the same day is a separate soundtrack featuring the film’s songs by artists including  Eydie Gorme y Los Panchos, Espinoza Paz, Queen Sea Big Shark and Beth Thornley. To pre-order the album, click here. Girl in Progress is directed by Patricia Riggen and stars Eva Mendes, Patricia Arquette, Cierra Raminez and Matthew Modine. The movie centers on a teenage girl dissatisfied with her life who tries to enter adulthood, but succeeds only in creating one crisis after another.

Christopher Lennertz to Score Seth Gordon’s ‘Identity Thief’ and Eric Kripke’s & J.J. Abrams’ ‘Revolution’

Christopher Lennertz has signed on to score the upcoming action comedy Identity Thief (aka Identity Theft). The movie is directed by Seth Gordon who previously collaborated with the composer on last summer’s comedy hit Horrible Bosses. Identity Thief stars Melissa McCarthy who steals the identity of a man played by Jason Bateman. Steven Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness, The Weather Man) has written the script and Craig Mazin (The Hangover II) is performing a rewrite. Bateman is also producing the film with Scott Stuber (Safe House, Role Models) and Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon) is executive producing. Universal Pictures has scheduled the comedy for a release on May 10, 2013.

Christopher Lennertz to Score ‘Think Like a Man’

Christopher Lennertz has signed on to score the upcoming romantic comedy Think Like a Man. The movie is directed by Tim Story and stars Kevin Hart, Michael Ealy, Taraji P. Henson, Meagan Good, Gabrielle Union, Jerry Ferrara, Regina Hall, Terrence J. and Romany Malco. The Screen Gems Production is based on Steve Harvey’s book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man and adapted for the screen by Keith Merryman & David A. Newman (Friends with Benefits).  In the film, four interconnected and diverse friends have their love lives shaken up after the women they are pursuing buy Harvey’s book and start taking his advice to heart. Will Packer (Obsessed, Takers) is producing the project. Story’s previous musical collaborators include John Ottman (Fantastic Four), Christophe Beck (Taxi) and Terence Blanchard (Barbershop).

Christopher Lennertz to Score Max Mayer’s ‘As Cool as I Am’

Christopher Lennertz has signed on to score the comedy drama As Cool as I Am. The movie starring James Marsden, Claire Danes, Sarah Bolger, Jon Tenney, Peter Fonda, Jeremy Sisto, Alanis Morissette, Thomas Mann, Anika Noni Rose and Mario Batali follows a Montana teen girl who deals with her self-centered parents trying to recapture the youth they feel they missed. The film is directed by Max Mayer who has previously collaborated with Lennertz on the 2009 indie drama Adam starring Hugh Dancy and Rose Byrne. As Cool as I Am is adapted from a novel by Pete Fromm and adapted for the screen by Virginia Korus Spragg (An Unfinished Life).
