Three new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the biographical drama First Man directed by Damien Chazelle and starring Ryan Gosling, Claire Foy, Jason Clarke, Kyle Chandler, Corey Stoll, Ciarán Hinds, Christopher Abbott, Patrick Fugit and Lukas Haas. The film’s original music is composed by Justin Hurwitz (La La Land,Whiplash). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Also opening nationwide is the mystery thriller Bad Times at the El Royale written and directed by Drew Goddard and starring Jeff Bridges, Cynthia Erivo, Dakota Johnson, Jon Hamm, Cailee Spaeny, Lewis Pullman, Nick Offerman and Chris Hemsworth. Michael Giacchino (Up, Lost, Jurassic World, The Incredibles, Star Trek) has composed the film’s original score. ‘Beautiful Boy’ Soundtrack Details

Warner Bros. Records will release the official soundtrack for the drama Beautiful Boy. The album features the songs from the movie by artist such as John Lennon, Massive Attack, Nirvana, David Bowie, Sigur Rós, Tim Buckley, Amon Tobin, Mogwai & others. Also included is the original song Treasure by Sampha. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, October 12 and will be available to download on Amazon. Beautiful Boy is co-written and directed by Felix van Groeningen and stars Steve Carell, Timothée Chalamet, Maura Tierney and Amy Ryan. The movie is based on the pair of memoirs from father and son David and Nic Sheff and chronicles their experience of survival, relapse, and recovery in a family coping with addiction over many years.

Only one new movie is opening wide this weekend:

Matthew Vaughn’s comic book adaptation X-Men: First Class starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, Jennifer Lawrence and Rosamunde Pike is expected to top the weekend box office. The film’s music is written by Henry Jackman and a soundtrack album has been released digitally earlier this week by Sony Classical. A physical release will follow on June 28. Opening in limited release is the dramedy Beginners directed by Mike Mills and starring Ewan McGregor, Christopher Plummer and Melanie Laurent. The film’s score is composed by Roger Neill, David Palmer and Brian Reitzell. The movie also features a number of songs. Trevor Morris to Score Oren Peli’s ‘The River’

Trevor Morris has been hired to score the upcoming TV drama pilot The River. The thriller/horror show centers on a family who travels to the deep Amazon to locate and rescue their missing father. The show’s cast includes Bruce Greenwood, Leslie Hope, Joe Anderson and Thomas Kretschmann. The River is created by the Paranormal Activity writer and director Oren Peli, who co-wrote the pilot with Michael Perry (Paranormal Activity 2). The show’s pilot marks the TV directing debut of Jaume Collet-Serra whose thriller Unknown starring Liam Neeson is currently in theaters. He also previously directed the features House of Wax and Orphan. The River is said to be shot in a cinema verite-style, akin to Peli’s Paranormal Activity. The show is produced by ABC Studios and DreamWorks’ TV division. It is expected that Morris will be scoring the show if it gets picked up by ABC for next TV season.
