Only one new movie is opening wide this weekend:

Matthew Vaughn’s comic book adaptation X-Men: First Class starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, Jennifer Lawrence and Rosamunde Pike is expected to top the weekend box office. The film’s music is written by Henry Jackman and a soundtrack album has been released digitally earlier this week by Sony Classical. A physical release will follow on June 28. Opening in limited release is the dramedy Beginners directed by Mike Mills and starring Ewan McGregor, Christopher Plummer and Melanie Laurent. The film’s score is composed by Roger Neill, David Palmer and Brian Reitzell. The movie also features a number of songs. Henry Jackman’s ‘X-Men: First Class’ Score Out on Tuesday

While the release date for physical CD version of the X-Men: First Class soundtrack has been pushed back a week to June 28, 2011 since our last update, Sony Masterworks will be releasing the album digitally on Tuesday. As reported, the soundtrack includes 20 tracks from the original score by Henry Jackman. Check out audio clips from each track below and download the album here starting on May 31. Sony Masterworks has revealed the details for the upcoming soundtrack release for X-Men: First Class. The album features 20 tracks of Henry Jackman‘s original score for the comic book adaptation. The album will be released on June 21, 2011 and is currently available to pre-order on Amazon. As reported earlier this month, the album is listed to be released overseas on June 6, 2011 at the moment (check out the alternate cover art below). UPDATE May 10, 2011: Sony Music will be releasing the soundtrack album on June 21, 2011 in the US. Check back on this page for more details and audio clips. To pre-order the soundtrack, visit Amazon.

While X-Men: First Class is still awaiting an official soundtrack release announcement, the album has appeared on several European online stores over the last couple of days. Sony Classical has been identified as the label and the soundtrack looks to be released on June 6, 2011 in the UK. Another update will be made when the domestic release date and more details about the album’s contents become available. Given the choice to release the soundtrack on Sony’s Classical label, it is safe to say that the album will most likely include Henry Jackman‘s original score. As has been reported by various websites, Take That‘s song Love Love has been chosen as the end credits song for the film and could also be featured on the soundtrack.

Henry Jackman to score X-Men: First Class

Film Music Reporter has learned that Henry Jackman has been hired to score the upcoming comic book adaptation X-Men: First Class. The project reunites Jackman with director Matthew Vaughn after their collaboration on Kick-Ass earlier this year (which the composer scored alongside John Murphy, Ilan Eshkeri and Marius DeVries). X-Men: First Class tells the origin story of the characters of the X-Men series including Magneto and Professor X. The movie is expected to start shooting soon for a June 3, 2011 release date. The film’s cast includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, Jennifer Lawrence and Rosamunde Pike. Jackman follows Michael Kamen, John Ottman, John Powell and Harry Gregson-Williams as the fifth composer scoring a movie in the X-Men series.

Jackman also has three other projects coming up.
