Back Lot Music will release a soundtrack album for DreamWorks Animation’s animated sequel Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. The album features the film’s original score composed by Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me, Minions, The Angry Bird Movie, The Smurfs, Paw Patrol: The Movie, Smallfoot). Also included are the original songs Fearless Hero written by Pereira, Dan Navarro & Paul Fisher and performed by Antonio Banderas (who stars in the title role), La Vida Es Una co-written (with Ovy on the Drums) and performed by Karol G (already available as a digital single), Por Que Te Vas co-written (with Pereira) and performed by Gaby Moreno, as well as a cover of The Doors’ The End performed by Navarro. The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, December 16 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services.

‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’ to Feature Original Songs by Karol G, Daniel Oviedo, Heitor Pereira & Others
Latin Grammy Award winner Karol G has recorded an original song for DreamWorks Animation’s feature Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. The track, entitled La Vida es Una, is co-written by herself & Daniel Oviedo who also produced the song (as Ovy on the Drums). The movie also features two original songs co-penned by the film’s composer Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me, Minions): Fearless Hero (co-written with Dan Navarro & screenwriter Paul Fisher) performed by Antonio Banderas (who stars in the title role) and Por Que Te Vas co-written (with Pereira) and performed by Grammy Award nominee Gaby Moreno.
Heitor Pereira Scoring DreamWorks Animation’s ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’
Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me, Minions, Smallfoot, The Smurfs, Beverly Hills Chihuahua, The Angry Birds Movie, Paw Patrol: The Movie) is currently recording his score for the upcoming animated comedy adventure Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. The film is directed by Joel Crawford (The Croods: A New Age) and stars Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Olivia Colman, Samson Kayo, Harvey Guillén, Wagner Moura, John Mulaney, Anthony Mendez, Florence Pugh, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Ray Winstone. The movie follows the title character who discovers that his passion for peril and disregard for safety have taken their toll and – in order to get all his nine lives back – takes on his grandest quest yet.

Three movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Opening in most theaters this week is Dreamworks Animation’s Puss in Boots directed by Chris Miller and featuring the voice talent of Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Zach Galifianakis and Billy Bob Thornton. The film’s music is composed by Henry Jackman. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring Jackman’s music, as well as two tracks by Rodrigo y Gabriela this past Tuesday. Also opening wide is the sci-fi thriller In Time directed by Andrew Niccol and starring Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, Olivia Wilde, Cillian Murphy and Alex Pettyfer. The film’s score is composed by Craig Armstrong. A soundtrack album featuring Armstrong’s music has been released digitally earlier this week by Lakeshore Records. ‘Puss in Boots’ Soundtrack Details
Sony Classical will be releasing the soundtrack album for Dreamworks Animation’s Puss in Boots. The album features the original score from composer Henry Jackman who collaborated with Rodrigo y Gabriela on the movie as previously reported on this page. The soundtrack will be released on October 24, 2011 and will be available as a digital release on Amazon. A physical release has been announced overseas, but no word yet on a domestic release. Audio clips from all tracks on the album can be checked out after the jump. Puss in Boots is directed by Chris Miller (Shrek the Third) and features the voice talent of Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Zach Galifianakis and Billy Bob Thornton. The movie will be released in theaters on October 28.
Hans Zimmer and Rodrigo y Gabriela on ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’
Spinner Music has recently uploaded a new short video interview with Hans Zimmer and Rodrigo y Gabriela focusing on the contributions of the Mexican musical duo to score for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The site has also published a music video of the track The Pirate That Should Not Be from the film’s soundtrack, in which the musicians can be seen performing the rhythmic guitar parts of the track. In related news, Rodrigo y Gabriela have revealed in a recent interview with Vanity Fair that they will be working on another film that a composer of Zimmer’s Remote Control Productions is scoring. The duo will be collaborating with Henry Jackman on the upcoming Dreamworks Animation picture Puss in Boots.
Henry Jackman to score X-Men: First Class
Film Music Reporter has learned that Henry Jackman has been hired to score the upcoming comic book adaptation X-Men: First Class. The project reunites Jackman with director Matthew Vaughn after their collaboration on Kick-Ass earlier this year (which the composer scored alongside John Murphy, Ilan Eshkeri and Marius DeVries). X-Men: First Class tells the origin story of the characters of the X-Men series including Magneto and Professor X. The movie is expected to start shooting soon for a June 3, 2011 release date. The film’s cast includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, Jennifer Lawrence and Rosamunde Pike. Jackman follows Michael Kamen, John Ottman, John Powell and Harry Gregson-Williams as the fifth composer scoring a movie in the X-Men series.
Jackman also has three other projects coming up.
