Varese Sarabande Records has announced the details for the soundtrack release of the French romance La fille du puisatier (aka The Well Digger’s Daughter). The album includes Alexandre Desplat’s original score, as well Enrico Caruso’s performance of the song Core ‘Ngrato from the film. The score was recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios. The soundtrack has been released as a physical CD in Europe and will be available on iTunes in the US on May 31, 2011. The album can also be ordered as an import on Amazon. La fille du puisatier starring and directed by Daniel Auteuil has already been released in France and a domestic release has yet to be announced.

BREAKING NEWS: Alexandre Desplat to Score George Clooney’s ‘The Ides of March’
Film Music Reporter has learned that Alexandre Desplat has signed on to score the drama The Ides of March. George Clooney directs and stars in the film about a young press spokesman, played by Ryan Gosling, who falls prey to backroom politics, the treacherous manipulations of veteran operatives and the seduction of a young intern. The movie is an adaptation of the Broadway play Farragut North and co-stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, Evan Rachel Wood, Marisa Tomei, Max Minghella and Jeffrey Wright. Clooney adapted the play for the screen with Grant Heslov who previously co-wrote the director’s Academy-Award-nominated drama Good Night, and Good Luck.
‘The Tree of Life’ Soundtrack Details
Lakeshore Records has announced the details of the soundtrack release of Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life. The album includes 13 tracks of Alexandre Desplat’s original score. As reported earlier, the soundtrack is set for a release on May 24, 2011. To pre-order the album, visit Amazon. The Tree of Life starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn centers on a son and his complicated relationship with his father. The movie is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and is opening in the US on May 24, 2011.

‘Largo Winch II’ Soundtrack details
Varese Sarabande Records will release a soundtrack album for the upcoming adventure thriller Largo Winch II. The album includes 20 tracks of Alexandre Desplat’s score for the movie. Also known as The Burma Conspiracy, the film is a sequel to the 2008 thriller Largo Winch, which also featured a score by Desplat and is available to download on iTunes. The album will only be released as a physical CD in Europe, but will receive a digital release on iTunes in the US. The album release date has been scheduled for March 22, 2011. Largo Winch II stars Tomer Sisley and Sharon Stone and will receive a release in France on February 16. There are no current plans for a domestic release of the film. Alexandre Desplat wins BAFTA for ‘The King’s Speech’
Alexandre Desplat has won the Orange British Academy Film Award (BAFTA) in the Original Music category for his score for The King’s Speech. The award was presented to him by singer/songwriter Paul McCartney. Desplat’s competitors in the category were A.R. Rahman for 127 Hours, Danny Elfman for Alice in Wonderland, John Powell for How to Train Your Dragon and Hans Zimmer for Inception. The award marks Desplat’s first BAFTA after being nominated before for Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Queen, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Two movies open wide this weekend:
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 is already breaking pre-sales records and is expected to beat the opening weekend grosses from the previous films in the series. Alexandre Desplat wrote the score for the movie as the fourth composer in the series. Desplat talking about Harry Potter score
A number of interviews with composer Alexandre Desplat on his score for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 have been published over the last couple of days. AinItCoolNews conducted an interview with the composer talking in detail on how he got involved in the project and his approach to the movie’s score. Daniel Schweiger from Film Music Magazine also did an interview with Desplat talking about working on Harry Potter and also confirming his involvement in involvement in the last part of the series. Finally, the British radio station Classic FM uploaded a short audio interview with the composer where he talks about following the footsteps of John Williams, Patrick Doyle and Nicholas Hooper and working with the LSO, which recorded his soundtrack for the movie.
